I have known Lee going on 4 years now first meeting him as a coaching mentor with our recreational youth soccer program at Riverside. Soccer becomes a completely different experience just watching a game with Lee. There is something to be said for growing up with a soccer as your national pastime and the intuitive nature that comes with generation after generation watching, playing and coaching the sport. This is what you get with Lee coming from the UK. The game changed for me from a mass of players running around to seeing organized attacks or spotting weaknesses in a defense. This came just watching a couple games on TV with Lee, however... Lee's real value became obvious in working with my son. First, the credibility, put all the credentials and coaching license aside...Lee knows soccer!!! Within minutes Lee the coach pointed out weaknesses in his game and gave him drills to fix the problems. First touch and striking for power with left foot went from weaknesses to strengths in short order. If you have the opportunity to have your child attend one of his camps I highly recommend it. Better yet small group or private lessons is a great investment for the serious player. One word of caution, if you are looking for a lot of "feel good" fluff that you so often get from camps to keep the checks coming, Coach Barnes may not be your man. Honest, straightforward, constructive criticism is the foundation of his coaching style. You have to recognize the problem before you can fix it and Lee certainly has that vision.
