More About Coach Lance
Based in Houston, Texas, I teach mental skills to athletes aged 12 through Division 1 college level. I conduct coaching sessions in my office, on the field or venue, and virtually. I am an affiliate member of the Association for Applied Sport Psychology.
I was voted an all-state running back by the Oregon Sports Writers Association in 1977. I was recruited by the University of Oregon, United States Military Academy West Point, and other Division 1 schools. I ultimately signed a letter of intent for a full-ride football scholarship to play wide receiver at Oregon State University. A few months later, I was drafted in the 10th round of the 1978 June draft as a switch-hitting shortstop for the Milwaukee Brewers Baseball Club. I ultimately signed with the Brewers, and at the end of my first year, I was voted "Most Likely to Succeed" in the New York-Penn League. I was then invited and was a part of the Brewers Instructional League in Glendale, Arizona.
I teach through illustration, believing the foundation for mental toughness is visualization/imagery. My endeavor is to communicate the importance of applying mental skills and to use the tools on a consistent basis, just as you practice the sport physically. A session begins with visualization then dreams and goals, positive self-talk (which leads to courage), focus and then the ultimate - confidence.
