More About Coach Knox

I am a licensed mental health counsel in Washington State in private practice that works with current and former athletes, coaches, and organization who are dealing with a variety of mental health, performance, and identity issues. My goal is to help every individual understand how their past influences their behavior and beliefs in the present and how this knowledge can lead them to greater health both personally and athletically in the future. I also served as a football chaplain for several years at Clemson University where I led team bible studies, counseled players individually, and helped players develop their lives holistically. I have worked with a diverse range of clients ranging in age from youth to older adults and with different levels of athletic achievement (recreational to professional).

I played several years of basketball and baseball at a large high school in South Carolina. I played in the two state championship games and earned an all-region selection in baseball my senior year. I played competitive AAU basketball up until college and won several tournament MVP awards and all tournament selections as well as team awards. I was offered a couple of D-1 baseball scholarships but decided to pursue other interests and enrolled at Clemson University. My final year at Clemson I was selected on a college basketball tour with Athletes in Action against professional teams in Russia.

Sessions are designed to help each individual address the specific roadblocks they are facing and thus require each person to come ready to participate in their own growth process. Like anything else in life and sport, you will get out what you put in. Sessions are focused on integrating mind, body, and spirit and will include talking, feeling, and moving. Individual consultations will explore the internal and external factors that contribute to struggles on and off the field. Each person will become familiar with how the brain, mind, and body interact with each other to produce emotion, cognition, and action. We will also look at how disconnection between these systems will create anxiety and concentration issues. More importantly, however, is that each athlete leaves with a greater degree of self-love, self-esteem, and compassion regardless of how they perform. The greatest athletes are the ones who know they are worthy and loved regardless of their ability to perform. This foundation allows each person to try new things, fail, learn, and grow without fear and anxiety of what might be at stake.
