More About Coach Kevin

Kevin Pratte begins his first season as the San Diego City College men's volleyball head coach. Most recently, Pratte was the women's volleyball head coach at Mt. San Jacinto College. In Pratte's first season as head coach, the Eagles went from a 3-23 record in 2012 to 15-9 in 2013 and a fifth place finish in the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference. Prior to the 2013 season, Pratte recruited Taylor Kushner who was named to the All-PCAC First Team and was the leading point scorer in the conference.

Two years prior to coaching at MSJC, Pratte served as the Athletic Director, varsity girls' volleyball coach and physical education teacher at Langston Hughes Academy in Stockton, Calif. Pratte led Langston Hughes Academy to its first ever CIF playoff appearance and was named the 2012 Mountain Valley League Coach of the Year.

Prior to his stint at Langston Hughes, Pratte was an assistant coach for the men's volleyball team at the University of Pacific in 2010 and 2011. During the 2009 season, Pratte was a graduate assistant coach with the University of Nebraska women's volleyball team.

Pratte, a native of Hemet, Calif., was a standout player at Hemet High where he lettered in volleyball all four years. He was named to the First Team All-Conference in each of his four seasons, and was named the Press Enterprise's Inland Empire Player of the Year in his senior year. Pratte was selected to the First Team All-CIF in his junior and senior years.

Following his career at Hemet High, Pratte went on to play at the University of Pacific where his team was ranked as high as No. 7 in the country during his sophomore season. As a senior, Pratte was a starting outside hitter for the Tigers.

Coach Pratte holds a bachelor's degree in Sports Pedagogy from the University of Pacific, a California State Single Subject K-12 Teaching Credential in Physical Education, and a master's degree in Education Administration from the University of Pacific. Pratte is currently working on earning his second master's in Physical Education at Azusa Pacific.

- Earned an AA beach volleyball ranking through CBVA volleyball during college.
- Member of the University of the Pacific men's volleyball team from 2005 to 2009. Pacific was ranked as high as fourth in the country when Pratte was on the team.

- Voted most inspirational on the Pacific men's volleyball team in 2009.

Types of drills that can be work are include:

Ball control drills: Pepper, Setting drills, Passing to target drills

Attacking drills: Step close drill, 3 step approach drill, pass to hit drill, back row attack drill

Serving: Serve to spots, jump serving, float serving and jump float serves

Setting: Setting outside hitters, middles, right side attackers and back row attackers.

The student athlete often tells me what position they want to work on.

Example for a setter:

Min 1-15 Ball control drills: Pepper and some passing drills
Min 15-40: Setting footwork, Setting to the outside hitter, Setting to the middle hitter and setting to the right side attacker.
Min 40-50: Serving
Min 50-60: Defense
