More About Coach Kelsie
I have a B.S. in Health and Exercise Science, am certified as a Personal Trainer and am certified in Adult, Child and Infant CPR/AED/First Aid. I currently coach a summer volleyball camp at Blue Ridge Community College, coaching grades 6-9. I played volleyball for 7 years and was captain in high school. I was versatile and played all positions (defensive specialist, setter and hitter). I was recruited to play in college but decided to play college basketball instead. I love working with athletes and working hard to improve their skills, whether they want to improve for personal benefit, get stronger and/or make a team tryout.
I was all-district and all-region, as well as the Athlete of the Year. I was recruited to play collegiate volleyball but chose to play basketball instead and did so at Bridgewater College.
I have extensive playing experience and expertise about the game of volleyball, as well as knowledge and education as a personal trainer and college graduate (B.S. in Health and Exercise Science) to maximize training time with my athletes. I will incorporate all of my expertise to make sure my athlete is prepared to reach their goals. Time is of the essence, so I will keep training sessions to 60 minutes as long as my athlete brings the focus and hard work. I have played all positions so I am flexible in what I teach and can do whatever the athlete needs. I will touch on everything to make them a well-rounded player, but mostly spend time on weaknesses and needs to achieve their goals. I love to have fun while working hard.
In terms of actual training sessions, again it is all tailored to what the athlete needs, but all skills will be performed so that I can see weaknesses or errors and begin to correct/strengthen them. I will also tailor my training based on what/how the athlete wants to practice, but will always keep it fun and engaging.
If strengthening/conditioning is requested, I am specialized in that and can do that as well. I WILL workout with my athletes (I will not be a sidelines coach!). If training is strictly skill oriented, here is how the sessions will go:
- warm up/daily goals are established
- basic exercises to improve certain needs
- drills to enhance accuracy/consistency/max effort
- break for water/stretch
- revisit drills (repetition stimulates learning), more game like scenarios/connections
- cool down/goals met? what was learned? future goals?

BRCC Volleyball Camp parents (Testimonial)
Kelsie is great with kids! She made the camp fun and educational and was patient with all of the beginner players. Ms. Floyd went above and beyond her responsibilities to meet our time restricted needs. She was very professional and personal.
