More About Coach Kelly
My name is Kelly and I am a former nationally ranked goal keeper and currently a certified personal trainer. I have worked with young athletes for over a decade including children and teenagers of all ages. In regards to soccer, I work with kids as young as two and adults as old as mid-twenties. As a personal trainer I have clients as young as 10 and as old as 85. My work with younger children includes teaching them fundamentals of the game, how to dribble/handle the ball, confidence and positioning on the field. My work with pre-teens, teenagers and adults is all about building strength and endurance, teaching the correct form as a goal keeper (i.e. how to punt, come out for a break-away, diving, catching, throwing, punting, etc.) showing them how to communicate with their teammates, positioning, real-time game exercises, teaching them field and foot skills, boosting their confidence and preparing them for penalty kicks, corner kicks, goal kicks, etc. As far as experience goes, I was an apprentice for Keeper Trainer NY for 10 years, then joined them as a head trainer. I am an AAPTE certified personal trainer. I also am AED/CPR certified. I also worked for Soccer Shots Long Island West as a head trainer.
I am a 3x Nassau County girls soccer Champion, 2x Long Island High School girls soccer Champion, 1x New York State AA High School girls soccer Champion. I brought 2 teams to 3 consecutive State Championships. I was a 3x Waldbaums Cup Champion. I was awarded a $3,000 Scholarship in high school for being my teams best leader on and off the field. I played on nationally ranked teams and traveled up and down the east coast to play the best competition possible.
Every session is based off the needs and wants of the specific client. A general idea of a workout with me consists of a cardio warm up and light stretch, then we will go over the days learning plan which would include a fundamental of the game - ex: foot work, juggling, diving, dribbling, heading, catching, breakaways, corner kicks, shooting techniques, penalty kicks, passing, trapping, turning, defending, offense, positioning, etc. The fundamental of the day will be taught with a drill that focuses on what we are learning mixed with conditioning. Halfway through the session we work on strength. It is so important for children, teens and adults to keep their bodies strong. I believe that this is where kids can get to that next level. A lot of young athletes simply play the game and go home, with me they will get the added bonus of strength training. I believe showing a young athlete the proper way to workout and stretch to avoid injuries common with soccer is one of the most important things about training. After we work on strength then comes some more cardio drills that include some sort of footwork. I like to end every session on a high note. I will ask the athlete what they believe is their strongest skill is in the game and play a little 1v1. Being in my 20's and a trainer allows me to run with the athletes and challenge them like they are in a real game setting. I also like to end with sprints. I pride myself on my sessions being fun, challenging, exciting, intense and informative.
