More About Coach Katie

Katie has 14 years of experience on the ice and has been sharing her love for skating with others for 7 years. Katie studied Psychology at Liberty University where she also skated competitively, coordinated the Learn to Skate program, and instructed group and private lessons. After college, Katie coached in the greater NYC area for 6 months, where she formed the Learn to Skate program at a country club, as well as coached at other indoor and outdoor rinks in the area, working with about 40 clients throughout the season in both private and group lessons. She now resides in Sarasota, FL, and is available to coach in surrounding areas.She has experience working with skaters of all ages, disciplines, and abilities. Katie has experience and enjoys the opportunity to work with special needs skaters as well. She has skated competitively in synchronized skating and dance, and is a USFSA gold medalist in Moves. She is currently an insured member of USFSA and PSA.

I have experience skating competitively at the collegiate level, in synchronized skating and dance. I practiced moves, freestyle, and dance for 12 years.

- I adjust my coaching sessions based on the age, skills and goals of the skater! Either way, my goal is that the skater improves, works hard, and has fun!

- For young beginner skaters, I love incorporating games and toys into the session to allow skaters to become more comfortable with being on the ice.

- I love the opportunity of working with skaters on the creative aspect of skating by adding choreography and music to our practice sessions.

- I also work to improve the skating skills of hockey skaters by working with them on their techniques to make them stronger and faster skaters.

Katie successfully built our private country club's Learn to Skate Program. Katie proactively reached out to us inquiring about our needs and took the bull by the horns. She assessed the skaters skill levels, effectively grouped skaters in a 1:4 teacher student ratio while managing the matrix of ice availability and student schedules. The program grew to 45 students. She did all of this with a superior customer service focus. Katie was professional and approachable with parents and warm and supportive with students, supporting them to reach their goals and be better skaters while having fun! We are grateful to have worked with such a warm and professional person. Katie has watched my tween children over the course of the past year. She has great spirit and maintains authority with them. It's the perfect balance of having fun but letting the kids know their boundaries. Katie has always been reliable and proactive in understanding the needs and guidelines for the kids. She has assisted with homework and helped my children with incorporating some good study skills. I recall an evening when I was chatting with Katie before our departure and my kids nudging me...asking...."don't you need to go out Mom?" She's wonderful and will always have a special place in our hearts!
Katie was a fabulous skate instructor for my two young boys -- ages 5 and 6. My boys were nervous about getting on the ice, but Katie's smile and love for skating relaxed them. It was amazing to see them progress with confidence and laughs under her instruction. In a matter of weeks both boys were flying around the rink. My biggest problem was getting them off the ice! ~
Katie is an enthusiastic and compassionate skating teacher. My young daughters (ages 3 & 6) loved working with Katie, even on the very cold days on the outside rink. Katie made the lessons fun, engaging and age-appropriate. Additionally, we all loved seeing her off the rink to help out with the kids.
