More About Coach Karol

Private coach combining professional European soccer experience and personal training knowledge to offer unrivaled player development in terms of athleticism, technique, cognitive function, mental strength, and overall ability.

Head coach and footskills/goalkeeper trainer for the Cleveland Whitecaps the past seven years. Goalkeeper coach for BSA, Padua Boy's High School, Brecksville-Broadview Hts. Boy's & Girl's High School, and Ashland University Men's Soccer programs. Certifications include USSF D License, Goalkeeper 1 & 2 Licenses, and La Liga Methodology Formation coaching course, as well as being an ACE Certified Personal Trainer and having First Aid / CPR / AED live skills check certifications.

Have worked within indoor, outdoor, and futsal soccer environments with kids as young as four just beginning to learn the game, all the way up to experienced college players looking to make it to the next level. Also began a private soccer training academy in Poland, using the PZPN (Polish Soccer Federation) coaching philosophy to help develop young players up to the age of 13. Soccer training and coaching is not just my passion and hobby; this line of work is my career and entire life.

I am often asked how i can offer expertise and the highest level of training to both goalkeepers and field players. I played goalkeeper for Brecksville-Broadview Hts. High School where I went on to become a 1st Team All-Conference and All-Greater Cleveland selection, then accepted a scholarship to Notre Dame College where we went to the NAIA National Final my freshmen year. My sophomore year I transferred to John Carroll and seeking a new challenge, walked onto the team as a midfielder. Even as a keeper I had practiced my touch and footskills religiously. Despite several season-ending injuries, I was a consistent Academic All-Conference selection, and helped the team to a regular-season conference championship and one of its most successful seasons in program history my senior year, starting every match and scoring multiple game winning goals along the way. After finishing college ball, I had a short stint with the Cleveland Legacy of the Premier Arena Soccer League, then jumped at a dream opportunity to trial for a couple of professional teams in Poland. After a summer of training with Podhale Nowy Targ of the Polish 3 Liga, I agreed to a 6-month deal with Sparta Kazimierza Wielka of the Polish 4 League in January 2017.

I attribute the majority of my soccer success and its rapid development to my relentless work ethic, mental strength, and unique training style/techniques. Countless times I have turned what most consider to be "setbacks" like injuries and surgeries into periods of mental, physical, and personal growth. I have always been very proactive with my training plans, preparations, recovery, diet, workout plans, etc. as i believe a comprehensive training approach is absolutely necessary to get the best out of every player. Having gone from starting soccer in high school and being on JVB at age 14, to traveling the world and getting paid to play the beautiful game at 24, my story is a testament that it is never too late to go after your dreams.

The goal of my training is to improve technique, athleticism, cognitive function, and all-around ability. Sessions are tailored to your age, skill level, position, and personal goals. Focus with younger and less experienced players is on improving coordination and overall athleticism, basic skills, and general technique. With older and more experienced players, the focus is on more intense athleticism and gains in muscular strength/endurance, advanced technique, and position-specific training.

Sessions are typically 60-75 min long. The first half of training will begin with a warmup/activation phase and progress into ball and touch work, to improve trapping, passing, and dribbling ability. The second half of training will often include functional/cognitive exercises that target muscle memory and train the brain and body to be in synch, as well as situational and position-specific training around/going to goal.

For goalkeepers, the session plan is very similar. The warmup will focus on coordination/footwork, hand-eye coordination, and soft handling. More intense footwork and plyometrics will follow. From there, exercises may include high balls, proper diving technique, reflex and reaction work, playing with the ball at your feet, etc. Muscular endurance exercises are also incorporated throughout and sessions will conclude with a compact drill in goal that puts everything from the lesson together.

Although this is the general format of training, the plan of attack and how the session is structured will always depend on the client's goals and needs. It should also be noted that while repetition of skills is crucial for mastery, no session will be the same. The best part of this field is that it allows me to be creative with my work. Private training can seem extremely intimidating and intense, but i make sure that every session is challenging in a way that's also fun and enjoyable. Combining my own methodology and training methods with those I've picked up while playing in Europe, you'll be sure to learn about some things you've never seen or even considered before. I guarantee my training will exceed all of your expectations.

Outstanding Very Knowledgeable !

Karol coaches our high school-aged son. He offers intense 1:1 training sessions with a variety of drills targeting specific skills development as well as “real game” scenarios. He’s engaging, enthusiastic, and active in each session. He really works to get to know the player, sharing his insights and supporting them with positive encouragement. With each session he provides feedback and recommends an activity or two for the player to work on independently at home. He’s been great with our son, and we highly recommend him.

Great coach!

We have done a few lessons with coach Karol and plan to continue. He is very energetic and patient. Comes prepared with notes from the previous session and has fun drills that my son enjoys.

Coach Karol is a great coach for anyone who is striving for the highest level in their game. Of course as any great coach, he knows a great range of drills for whatever skill you wish to improve. The drills are always different, which of course challenges the player to great lengths both mentally and physically. But Coach Karol also has the experience to understand what areas of a player needs work and he is great at communicating this. He will challenge you during the sessions and after as he gave me "homework" to do everyday. And after only twenty minutes a day for a month he proved to me that the little things are what separates the good from great, since as many find out, in soccer it is not about making no mistakes; it is about making fewer mistakes than your opponent. Coach Karol has done much for me and can do the same for anyone who wants to challenge themselves with a supportive coach by their side.

My son is so lucky to have the opportunity to train with Coach Karol. The passion that Coach Karol puts into his sessions along with his deep expertise, incredible skill, and positive attitude truly sets him apart. He knows how to get the most out of each player with a tailored approach that has taken my son to the next level. I can’t say enough great things about my son’s experience with Coach Karol. I would highly recommend him to anyone interested in improving their soccer skills.

Excellent coach and very dedicated! I could tell immediately that my daughter was on board with what he was telling her. She looks forward to her next session. Best soccer money I've spent so far...

After the first session my son asked to extend his training another week. Excellent coach!

Very Skilled and prepared to work. Kept things positive and moving. His willingness to work with you and your style and making corrections vs. imposing "his way or the Highway" was refreshing. Highly Recommend him for any level player.

I really enjoy working with Karol because he always runs his practices with high intensity and motivation. He's continuously finding new ways to help us improve our skills, while making the experience enjoyable as well. I always leave training with something to work on for next time, as well as with a great sense of accomplishment.
Karol is an all-around great coach/teacher. He not only comes up with drills that cater to your individual and overall skills as a player but are also unique and enjoyable. He factors in the perfect amount of fitness and skill so that you must perform simple tasks while fatigued, which proves to be very difficult. I would definitely recommend Karol to any teams or individual players who want to improve overall skill or any single aspect of their game.
Karol does a great job analyzing what specific areas you need to work on, and he makes sure to improve those areas along with continuing to develop general skills. He does a great job of including some type of fitness in every exercise as well. As a goalie, he has really helped improve my hold along with how i judge and handle crosses and high balls- my biggest weakness. He always maintains a positive attitude and although every session is hard work, he makes sure it is fun too.
