More About Coach Kari

I love working with all age groups from youth rec to D1 college stars. I am currently coaching for Flatirons Rush USL2 & USL W. Previously I've coached for several CO Select teams, Indios Denver in the WPSL, and Skyline rec/competitive programs. In the WPSL I primarily worked with college goalkeepers looking to get recruited internationally. I regularly attend GK coaching conferences in the UK and here in CO.

I have always been a goalkeeper and always will be! In high school, we were 5A state championship runner-up, which got me selected to the CHSAA First Team All-State. I then went on to play for Dominican College (DII) in NY. While at DC we traveled to Costa Rica to play friendlies against their professional teams. I was able to win the starting GK spot as a freshman. I also enjoyed playing as a walk-on to the school's softball team. Post college I traveled the world and discovered a fun but painful talent for rugby. I returned to playing soccer in my late 20s and saw the game from an entirely new and analytical perspective. I joined the semi-pro team FC Denver where I met Jami Cobb and thrived playing alongside ex-professional and soon-to-be professional teammates. A teammate and I joined Boulder County FC for their inaugural season in the WPSL. After that season we were invited to attend the WPSL International Combine. Through the combine we gained valuable connections and knowledge about international recruiting and contracting with an agent. In late 2023 I was diagnosed with severe spinal stenosis in my neck and had to put an international soccer career on hold to have spinal surgery. This surgery has allowed me to focus on my coaching development and soccer analytics studies.

The foundation of my training philosophy is positivity. I find it often that the hardest opponent goalkeepers face is ourselves. I work to nurture resilience and long-term success by helping players learn they can choose confidence. My trainings consist of trust-building exercises that start with mastering small, simple movements (quick footwork, hand-eye coordination, short dives,..) I focus on the player's learning concentration rather than focusing on not making mistakes. I will often have players start a training session in special no-grip gloves. The no-grip gloves help the player learn to concentrate on the details of every catch and normalize the fact that learning happens when mistakes happen.
The specific techniques I use in training focus heavily on body positioning, spatial positioning, and reacting to realistic game-like scenarios and patterns with fun and competitive games.
At the end of every session, I get the iPad out and run through a frame-by-frame video analysis of my favorite professional save from the week.

Kari is a great coach. My son loves his time with her. She makes practice fun and provides insightful and directed feedback.

Coach Spicer has been amazing! Our 12 year old plays at an elite level and was steadily losing confidence on the pitch as she began to play at higher levels. After only a couple sessions she was not only back to her old self, but excelling at a rapid and obvious rate!
Our daughter is not a keeper, in fact she primarily plays in attacking positions, and she is benefiting immensely for Coach Spicer’s sessions. Thanks Coach!

Kari has been awesome with our daughter

Coach Kari has been great with my U9 daughter that has been working to improve her technical skills.

Outstanding! Was able to see results, literally, minutes after you left Coach Spice :)

Best private keeper trainer I've found for my son in Colorado. Recommended to me by someone I really respect in the Denver soccer community. Spice is a great communicator, reliable, positive and very knowledgeable. The training is non stop and a smoking deal for what you pay. I can't wait to see how much Maxwell learns from Spice.

Our daughter is really enjoying the sessions so far and is excited to continue them. We really appreciate the feedback given after each session. Coach Spice seems genuinely interested in developing young goalkeepers, both physically and mentally. We are happy to have found Coach Spice and believe she will be an excellent mentor for our daughter.

Coach by the way, Orion's first unfiltered, shouted feedback after the session last night was: "That was great! Coach didn't criticize me once. It felt so good to just make a mistake and keep going. I had so much fun!
