More About Coach Kailey

Hi! My name is Kailey and I was born and raised here in Phoenix, Arizona. I started playing softball at the age of 5 through AGS (Arizona Girls Softball). I quickly fell in love with the sport and wanted to move on to a more competitive level and did so at the age 9. I started on a 12u called the ACES. As my skills advanced, I slowly moved to more prestigious teams in Phoenix. I was 14 years old when I started playing with the L'il Saints organization. I then was invited to the 18 GOLD nationals at age 15 with this organization.

While playing competitively I also played at Deer Valley High School. I was awarded many honors while playing here at DVHS. These honors include: Captain of varsity team, MVP, Best Offensive Player, Best Defensive Player, First Team All-Region Catcher, Player of the Year, First Team All-State, Second Team All-American, and AIA All Region Team. In 2004 (my senior year) I won a State Championship with my younger sister Kristen. We were know as the sister duo as she pitched and I caught. I was awarded a full athletic scholarship to attend the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP). I was also awarded honors here such as WAC and C*USA player of the week, and starting catcher.

I graduated from UTEP in 2008 with a bachelors of science degree in kinesiology and exercise science and a minor in biology. I am furthering my education in nursing and hope to be an OR nurse some day.

I was the assistant varsity coach at DVHS from 2009-2012 (won State again in 2011 with my youngest sister Dana as our starting 3rd baseman). Our pitcher Lauren went on to play with the Florida Gators for her college career. I also have coached a 10u fast-pitch team with NVS. I have been giving private lessons since 2004.

I coach girls from all age groups and levels. I specialize in catching and hitting. However, I also give private lessons to beginning pitchers and to infield/outfield as well. If you are interested, I have many lessons which break the hour into catching and hitting or fielding and hitting. I also have a few girls who like to do incorporate conditioning with in their workouts as well and this is an option if you so choose. I love to start with an initial consultation to evaluate current skill level and to get to know the athlete. The initial lesson will be mostly focused on evaluation, goal setting, lesson planning and then a beginning lesson. Please be advised that I love to give a lot of instruction which means I talk A LOT. I care about my athletes and I make sure they understand proper techniques and will immediately stop a poorly executed drill in order to give further instruction. EVERY lesson will be tailored to meet your personal needs and goals. I am very familiar with softball injuries and will teach you proper ways to train and practice to avoid these at all costs.

I've been in the softball world for 22 years now. I played for the L’il Saints organization and Deer Valley High School (DVHS). In 2004 I won a State Championship with DVHS. I was awarded many honors such as Captain of varsity team, MVP, Best Offensive Player, Best Defensive Player, First Team All-Region Catcher, Player of the Year, First Team All-State, Second Team All-American, and AIA All Region Team. I continued my softball career to Division 1, University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP). I was also awarded honors here such as WAC and C*USA player of the week, and starting catcher. I currently am the assistant varsity coach at DVHS (won State again in 2011) and coach a 10u fast-pitch team as well.

All my lessons work on the athlete as a whole. This means I will not just sit there and do drills for an hour. I work on the mental aspect of the game as well as the strength and agility aspect in order to become a better all - around athlete. Each session is tailored towards each athletes goals and needs. Schedule an introductory/evaluation session to learn more of what your session plan would look like. VIDEO ANALYSIS FOR ANY LESSONS NOW AVAILABLE. CONTACT NOW FOR PRICING/INFORMATION. Catching Lesson Plan:
1st lesson: The first lesson will be a lot of analysis. Coach Kailey will go through various skills that are important to catchers to determine your current experience level and review the goals of the athlete. From there a tailored lesson will be individualized towards each individual athlete. Here is an example of how the lesson might go:

(1) Dynamic warm-up: will cover my expected warm-up the first lesson. After the first lesson you are expected to arrive 5-10 minutes early to perform warm-up so that is does not count towards lesson time. If for some reason you cannot arrive early for your lesson, the dynamic warm-up will still be performed during the scheduled lesson time. This is important to avoid potential injuries and properly warm-up muscles.

(2) Ladder/agility drills: Ladder drills are an important part of every sport. To become an elite athlete, ladder drills are one of the many drills performed to improve stability, agility, coordination and quickness or speed. During your lesson with Coach Kailey, these drills are always performed at the beginning of the lesson after warm-up. This is because it is important to make sure the muscles are warm enough for the quick movements, but that you are not tired when performing the ladder drills. When performing these ladders, it is important to remember quality over quantity. Coach Kailey expects all ladders to be performed properly. Coach Kailey will walk you through specific ladder drills to meet your goals.

(3) Catching drills: Catching drills are incorporated with various strength, conditioning, and agility training as well. This means your athlete will not just sit there and block or throw for an hour. After proper mechanics of catching skills are achieved, the lesson will become more of an all over workout that incorporates skills, drills and conditioning.

(4) End of lesson: The last 5 minutes of the lesson are to review any work that can be done at home, schedule future lessons and ask questions. Most of the lessons are scheduled back-to-back so this time is taken to complete these tasks.

Hitting Lessons:
The first hitting lesson by Coach Kailey is a lot of analysis. After introductions and talking about hitting concerns/goals, Coach Kailey will ask the athlete to take a few swings off of a tee. This is the basis of the hitting analysis and start of determining problem areas and making new goals (if different from goals previously stated). Coach Kailey uses tee work, two tee drills, audible drills and many other hitting techniques/drills in order to help achieve goals. Two different types of video analysis are available to add on to any lesson for additional cost. The first type of video analysis uses Coach's Eye. Coach Kailey will video tape various swings/drills during the lesson. After the lesson, Coach Kailey will use slow motion and drawing/recording tools to analyze further into the swing. Videos will be released for you to view by the next lesson. This helps have a solid starting point of where the athlete begins during the video analysis. The second video analysis includes video analysis but is 3D, tracks bat speed, attach angle, hand speed, time to impact, and vertical angle. This is more of a complex analysis but is great for all ages. If interested in adding either video analysis to your lesson, please let Coach Kailey know ahead of time.
