More About Coach Juan

Ive been coaching for the past 3 years. I started working with Downstate FC which is an all girls soccer team based out of Westchester County. From here I proceeded to start working with The Sharpened Athlete as a private soccer coach. In my year there I have worked with over 50+ players and run 20+ sessions per week. I work and have worked with players of all ages, levels, and positions. I have had all 5 star reviews! Soccer is my passion and I have a passion for helping players develop their game and reach the best level possible for them.

I was born in Colombia and grew up playing there. I then moved to the United States. I played club soccer my whole life for top teams in New Jersey including TSF Academy and New Jersey Stallions Academy. I am now playing at the collegiate division 2 level at Mercy College in NY. In my 2nd year we won our ECC conference and made it to the 2nd round of the National Tournament. I have played against top division 2 programs in the country as well as top division 1 opponents. I have also had the luxury of playing in Costa Rica and Colombia.

A client can expect a session tailored to the needs of themselves or their kids. I like to make every session different. Every player is different and has very different needs. My goal is for the player to get the most they can out of the session. One important thing for me is that the player has fun and enjoys the session as well. Without fun there is no point in playing the sport. Once a player has fun they will then develop better and have a better attitude towards training. I like to make my players work hard. I conduct very technically driven sessions. I want my players to get as many touches as they can on the ball and get as sharp as they can. I also make my sessions very position specific to meet the needs and demands of the player!

They took on my 5 1/2 year old son. He had very basic soccer skill but was athletic for his age. In a little over 14 months of weekly training sessions, he has gone from not making his town travel team, to making every team he tries out for. His technical skill, vision, shooting, defending and game awareness have all improved, SIGNIFICANTLY. We identified weakness during his games and attacked them in his sessions with great success. Both coaches have been excellent. Sessions are fun and exciting, he looks forward to them and when he needs motivation they provide that as well. Highly recommend and I am glad we found them!
