More About Coach Joseph

 I began swimming at age 7. My parents hired a private coach for me at age 10. My swimming took off from there, setting records, and finally as an Olympic trials qualifier. While in training as a hospital CEO, I coached a US club in Ohio for five years, growing the team from 37 to 152 swimmers. Swimmers set many records from state, regional, to national levels. Many swimmers stayed with swimming into college and several were all-American level swimmers including qualifying for the Olympic trials. I remain an avid competitor to this day, competing in USMS, and garnering top three places in national meets.

 In 1987, I presented a simple but unique and scientific workshop to coaches in Ohio. S.W.I.M. F.A.S.T™. The essence of this evolved from my own success as a swimmer as well as from the approach I used for five years. I use this approach today which comprises laws of physics and math or algorithms. The acronym stands for Sequential Workouts Improve Momentum – Facilitating Adjustments of Strokes for Tempo.

 My basic formulation remains as a scientific approach to coaching swimmers today and it is now on version 12, if it were a software. However, it is not software. It requires a coach with competitive experience and an acumen or insights for customizing optimal swimming by focusing on hydrodynamics, propulsion, and smart or evidence-based workouts. It is about perfecting a swimmer’s technique, mental purifying, and training motivation. It is about understanding and accepting the responsibility to become an elite swimmer.

 There are many good coaches who focus on organizing a team, ensuring there are enough swimmers to pay the salary of the coaches, fundraising, and pleasing or controlling the club’s parents board of directors. It is not possible for them to meet the specific needs of advancing swimmers. In fact, some produce burned out or browned out swimmers in the end.

 If your son or daughter is exceptional simply through team workouts, just imagine the heights that private coaching could bring to the table! Ask yourself how practice in a crowded pool with coaches who can barely keep track of workouts facilitate you or your swimmer athlete to an elite level? It cannot be done. The world's best swimmers are the result of an investment of some time and money to separate them from the rest of the pack.

 Message me today! Stop pondering! I will be happy to discuss capabilities and expected outcomes for you or your swimmer athlete.

Head Coach - HIM (PA) and VAST US SWIMMING (OH) clubs ~ produced state, zone, and national champions. Assistant coach - Virginia Gators.

Disclaimer: I hold an MBA and while managing a healthcare operation is my vocation, the science of swimming is my passion.

Chop-chop! Let's make a date and get to work!

Each session plan contains objectives, diagnostics, and prescriptive training. Swimmer engagement and collaboration are critical factors for achievement. The approach is holistic: mind, body, and spirit. My method is outcome based. Swimmers and parents must be motivated always. Late shows will result in cancellation of sessions.

Client Reviews

Our son had his first lesson with Coach Joseph, he was patient and extremely knowledgeable. We are very excited to see the progress our son makes working with him. I am so glad I found CoachUp and Coach Joseph!

Great first lesson. My son was swimming faster with the very first lesson!

From the very start, Joseph tailored my lessons to my specific needs. I am an open water swimmer, so he focused on techniques and drills that will help me in that environment versus a pool. He is extremely professional and provides both positive and corrective feedback. I have enjoyed each lesson, and I am able to apply what he teaches me during my training. I would recommend him to anyone looking to improve their times through proper technique and form.

Coach Joseph is very patient with my daughter, focusing on techniques improvements. For the first session he started to correct my daughter's techniques on free, back , breast and butterfly. My daughter likes the coach and we booked more sessions wit him after the first lesson is completed.

Coach Joseph was just what my son needed! He explained ways to improve his swimming techniques and within no time he was becoming more efficient with his strokes. We are looking forward to more coaching sessions!

My son is only 13. He's swam since age 6 but could not achieve the next level. He was no longer setting records and making top 10 times nationwide. I contacted Joseph through the CoachUp website. He responded within hours. We discussed the developmental delay of my son, especially due to his smaller stature. I signed my son for three sessions and the progress was unbelievable. He reduced his distance per stroke in free and fly and his time dropped significantly. We continued for a year on a biweekly basis. Last year, my son qualified for the 2016 Olympic trials. Totally amazing!
Last year my son worked with Joe. This year he is on the club's national team. There is nothing more to say. Joe knows swimming. He is a maven.
Joe worked with my son for six months. The team coach did not know. However, when my son's times came down and his technique changed, I had to let the cat out of the bag. As parents, we knew our son had talent but the team workouts were not helping him get to the next level. Joe is a collaborator with us and our son as well.
