More About Coach José Miguel

For the last 10 years, I have trained and worked with a number of local players competing at the club, high school and college level. I have helped them further develop their ball control, passing and shooting skills, increase their soccer IQ and gain deeper understanding of how, where & when to run, create, and use space when defending and attacking.

As a college player, I played two seasons for the RMU Eagles, earning numerous accolades before transferring to the University of Illinois-Springfield, where I played my final two years of college soccer and graduated in 2006 with a B.A. in Economics. I also played for Professional Development League (PDL) club Indiana Invaders F.C. in 2002 and 2003.

At RMU, I was named to the NAIA All-America Honorable Mention Team (2002 & 2003), NAIA All-Region VII First Team (2002 & 2003), and CCAC All-Conference First Team (2002 & 2003).

In addition, I earned the CCAC Conference Rookie of the Year award in 2002 after registering 15 goals and five assists, and then had eight goals and 19 assists the following year, with my 19 assists ranking me ninth in the NAIA. I was the Eagles' MVP both seasons at RMU-Springfield.

At University of Illinois-Springfield, I finished my two seasons with 9 goals and 7 assists in 18 games played for the 'Prairie Stars". During my second year at UIS, I was selected to the First Team of the American Midwest Conference and was named 2005 Prairie Stars' MVP. As of October of 2017 I still hold the school's record for point in one game, 7 (hat trick + 1 assist).

Sessions are normally focused on ball control, dribbling, passing and shooting drills that intend to replicate game situations. I like to create an environment in which the players are stimulated and encouraged to be creative and solve situations on their own.

Physical training (agility and weights) is not my area of expertise- I focus solely on aspect that involve constant contact with the ball.

Client Reviews

Coach Jos Miguel is great to work with. He's very knowledgable and very flexible with scheduling and re-scheduling. Worked with my 8 y.o. son with ball control and dribbling. Noticed very good improvement early on. Inspired my son to practice on his own time between coaching session. Jose Miguel is a very good coach and motivator. I highly recommend him.

Coach Jose' is always there ahead of the start time setting up and ready to start training right on time. He is very knowledgeable and personable. He always presents a well balanced session tailored to what my son needs adding bits of wisdom throughout. My son was able to implement what coach Jose' taught him right away with his team. Fabulous coach!

Coach José was able to connect with our young athletes easily and kept them focused and working hard yet still made the sessions fun throughout. Definitely worth it

Coach Jose is passionate about soccer and has experience with the college athletic process. Our son is working hard and enjoying the extra training.

Coach José just started working with my son. He has a son around the same age and relates very well. José has great energy and knows how to bring drills, instruction, and fun together to get the best out of athletes. My son says that, “Coach is very descriptive. He doesn’t just tell me to do something. He shows me how to do it.” Coach José clearly loves soccer and enjoys and knows how to help others develop their passion as well.

Ted has learned to love the game of soccer again because the practice part is now so much fun. José makes learning soccer skills fun and exciting! They work hard without knowing it because of the friendly competition. He is out there with the kids ensuring they improve their technique all the while having a great time.
I started to train with José over a year ago and during this time not only has my physical skills improved, but so has my soccer IQ. Seeing my soccer skills improve gave me more confidence in my ability to compete and play at the college level.
Max has been taking lessons since last summer. He has joined TÉCNICA Futsal team. He attended TÉCNICA’s Winter Camp. “Do I get to train with José this week?” is a weekly question I hear. I watch him play and I am just in awe. The footwork skills he has developed is phenomenal. He knows what to do, and when to do it.
