More About Coach John

My name is John Shimer and I am currently immersed in the soccer coaching world here in New England. I have a very active coaching lifestyle as I am currently the Head Men's and Women's Soccer Coach at Pine Manor College, the Head Coach of FC Boston Bolts U15 New England Premiership, and the Head Coach of the 2000 State Team for Olympic Development Soccer of Massachusetts Youth Soccer.

I have worked for five years in the college game for some of the best programs in the country including Ohio Wesleyan University (my alma mater), who most recently won the national championship in Division III men's soccer in 2012, and Endicott College, who won the Commonwealth Coast Conference regular season championship this past fall.

I also have over 11 years of developmental training experience with players at various age levels and playing ability from as young as 3-6 year-olds in tots programs up to high school aged players that played United States Soccer Developmental Academy (the top playing level for U.S. youth players).

Designing a practice plan is a skillful task. My practice plans change depending on the size of the group whether it's one player, a few players, or a team. The session always starts with a brief dynamic warm-up that can include technical work, agility work, speed work to make sure the player is prepared to work hard during the session and ideally not get hurt. Each practice session should be a progression building layers, getting more complicated and challenging from one activity to the next.

And most importantly the session is geared towards the client's needs and wants. If there is a specific skill/technique the player wants to work on, I will tailor the session to that need.
