More About Coach John
I have coached boys and girls from ages 7 to 14 for over 12 years. I have coached brand new young athletes to more advanced soccer players. I have a State D License and Advanced National License and have a National Goalkeeping II status. My real skill set (I am told) is developing players to become better in areas where they lack confidence and technical ability. I am a College Professor so my education background goes hand-in-hand with this training. I currently am a High School and Club coach.
I played in High school and play in leagues now. As a College Teacher, I would say my accomplishments have been success-oriented occasions where "average" athletes I have worked with have developed the skills and confidence to really excel.
Typical sessions would focus on emotional and intellectual goals of the athlete: what do they want to do specifically? Where have they been before? In turn, I would focus on technical skills correlated to that goal and emphasize the repetition of those skills.With younger players, making the sessions "fun" at the same time has been a successful tactic.
