More About Coach John
I boxed in the 1996 Olympics and want to share my love of boxing. I've been training amateur, professional, and recreational boxers of all ages for the past 15 years.
I boxed as an amateur for 4 years before competing in the 1996 Olympics. I went on to box professionally for 12 years. Since then I've been teaching boxing to the next generation and to those who just want a great workout.
A typical session is 1-1.5 hours. First we stretch, then do warm up activities such as running or jumping rope. Next we'll work on shadow boxing, then pad work. I'll teach you punching, moving, and defense. Then (if you're in a gym with boxing facilities,) heavy bag, double-end ball, and speedball. Finish up with sit-ups, push-ups, weights, and stretching. If you plan to complete, we'll fit in some sparring. If you don't plan to compete, a boxing routine will keep you in great shape.
