More About Coach Joanna

I have trained/developed youth players for 7 years. I work at Next Level Academy with boys and girls between the ages of 6 and 12 where we focus on the technical development. I also have 5 years of experience working at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill soccer camps where we develop, train, and coach young females between the ages of 10-18.

I am a recently retired professional soccer player. I have played for the Orlando Pride and Chicago Red Stars in the NWSL. I graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2017 where I was a Scholar All-American and 3x All ACC Team member and helped lead the team to our recent 2017 ACC Tournament Championship. I have been a member of US Youth National Teams since the age of 14. I participated in the U17 FIFA Women's World Cup in 2012. At the club level, I lead my team to 3 National Championships.

I have also recovered from tearing two ACL's in 8 1/2 months in 2015 and 2016 right before my senior season at UNC. I dedicated myself to completely preparing myself both physically and mentally to have a comeback senior season after 21 months out of the game. That year, I was 2nd Team All ACC, ACC Tournament Champion, and was selected in the NWSL draft.

A typical session with me is an hour long focused specifically on technique; however, each session will be tailored to each client and will be dependent on what the client is wanting to work on. My philosophy is to get as many touches on the ball as possible. The rhythm of each session will consist of a ball work warm up. Following the warm up, we will work specifically on the topic or activity of the day. The topic is up to the client's discretion. Examples could be: passing, long balls, first touch, shooting/finishing, dribbling. Throughout the session, I will be demoing, serving balls, and actively participating in the session.

Client Reviews

Joanna is the real deal, a fantastic coach. She was able to quickly assess my daughter's skill set and immediately challenge her with drills and insightful training at a fairly high level of play.

Joanna is an excellent instructor. She pinpoints specific strengths and weaknesses, and guides the athlete to immediate technical improvement. She is very knowledgeable about the game and positions. The time was used fully and efficiently. As if that wasn't enough, she's both friendly and professional.

A few lessons in and my 10-year old is already raving about Joanna’s ability to explain complex concepts and making soccer “fun”.

Joanna Boyles technically is my most gifted player. Even if you look at our entire history of our brilliant technicians she ranks right up there with the Tobin Heaths and the Meghan Klingenbergs and some of the best technical players that we’ve ever had here at UNC like the Tisha Venturinis. Jo Boyles technically is just a magnificent player. She’s an island of tranquility and composure in a game where that is difficult to ever have. She sets the mark for us in terms of playmaking, in terms of technical platforms, in terms of decision making. She’s just a spectacular player for us.
