More About Coach Ira

I coached Track & Field and Football for four years. I coached wide receivers and defensive backs in middle school. Then coached defensive backs in varsity football. I was the Head Middle school track & field coach. In both football and track & field I coached at Columbus Academy. On the varsity football level I coached at Dublin Scioto.

In addition to coaching middle school, I was also an assistant coach for varsity in track & field and have ran camps for middle schoolers and a separate camp for elementary aged children. On the varsity level I coached high jump and long jump.

I went to high school in Youngstown, Ohio graduating from Liberty High School in 2008. While there I played football was the captain my senior year. I played defensive back, wide receiver, slot receiver, running back, and outside linebacker. I wrestled and competed in track & field while also serving as a captain. I played football for Hiram College as a defensive back and then later for West Liberty University graduating from West Liberty University in 2012.

No matter what we are working on for our practice session we will warm up and cool down after the session. This is very important to me because I feel that it helps everyone perform to their best ability and also to prevent injuries.

The meat of the session depends on what level of athlete, their event(s), and what they want out of the session. I believe that any athlete can only be pushed as much as they want to be pushed.
We will drill techniques that help improve running form if the athlete’s focus on improvement involves any running. If they are in any throwing event we will focus on glide and other pieces of throwing technique. Each drill will be short to gain comprehension of certain skills, but not overly exhausting. The point of drills is to gain automaticity not just to condition. Conditioning comes at a different part of the session or sometimes a separate session entirely.

Exactly what my 12yo son needed. He’s been having a tough season and was actually starting to dislike football, which was always his favorite. Ira is positive, energetic, funny and my son left all smiles and looking forward to next week. Great experience.

Great first session! Can't wait for this week.

Excellent session. My daughter needed to focus on technique, and it’s exactly what she needed to propel her to reach her fullest potential. Can’t wait for her next session!

I have worked with coach Cross for a couple of years and I have never witnessed a day when he wasn't the most energetic and enthusiastic person in the group. He is always up and ready to go.
