More About Coach Ian

I bring a wealth of coaching experience to go along with my playing background. Having spent two years with the LA Galaxy Academy, arguably the best youth academy in the US Soccer Development Academy, I was the assistant coach for both the U14 and U18 teams. I was also the assistant coach on a U19 team that competed in the prestigious Dallas Cup Super Group. After two seasons with the Galaxy I was offered the assistant coaching position at the University of Wisconsin. There I helped the Badgers back into the NCAA tournament for the first time in 18 seasons. During his time in Madison I was also invited to coach the U17 US Men's National team during their 2014 July training camp. I also gained my US Soccer Federation "C" Coaching License in May 2013 and am currently taking my "B" License this year. From March 2016 through January 2019 I was the assistant coach at Santa Clara University. Most recently I was named assistant coach at Creighton University in January 2019.

I competed in high-level youth soccer leagues in Virginia and Northern Illinois, playing for prestigious clubs such as Braddock Road and Sockers FC Chicago. I then went on to play at the University of Illinois-Chicago where I would be part of the most successful team the school had ever seen. During my four years in Chicago the Flames went to three NCAA tournaments. In 2006 they lost to Notre Dame in the Round of 32. In 2007 they made their deepest run ever, reaching the Elite 8 where they eventually fell out to UMass. During the 2007 run, I scored goals against Northwestern and a game winning goal against Creighton. In 2008 they went back to the NCAA tournament and made it to the Sweet 16 where they matched up with UNC. I then spent time in training camps with both the Portland Timbers and LA Galaxy prior to becoming a coach.

Athletes can expect to be challenged first and foremost. But specifically they will be challenged based on what THEY need to work on. The program will not be generic or a one-size-fits-all mentality. There will be a uniqueness to the training with many exercises I have picked up over my time working with some of the top coaches in America. Players will be put through sessions that will be efficient, fun and help them build on parts of their game that can truly translate when they go back with their club or high school teams.
