More About Coach Heather
I have experience giving pitching and defensive lessons at all ages. I have worked softball skills camps at James Madison University and I have also given individual lessons. I currently have a personal training certification and a master’s degree in sport psychology.
I played Division I softball at James Madison University. Honors and awards include Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Rookie of the Year (2012), all conference first team (2012), all conference second team (2013, 2014), and All-Region first team (2014). Following undergrad, I obtained my masters degree in sport psychology, and I am currently pursuing a doctorate in Counseling Psychology with a concentration in sport and performance psychology.
With a beginning pitcher, I would break down the pitch into step by step segments. It is important to ensure that the pitcher feels confident in each stage before progressing to the next. We would start at the end of the pitch and work backwards towards the beginning. With more advanced pitchers, I would work with them to find a warm-up that works for them and help them with movement pitches (rose, drop, curve, etc.)
