I've had the pleasure of coaching players from age two to twenty-two years old since 2017. I was a member of the NCAA Division I Mercer University Women's Soccer team for four extraordinary years. Go Bears! We won a SoCon Conference Championship and made it to the conference tournament semi-finals/finals each season. I graduated from Mercer in 2017 with a double major in Communications and Media Studies. I have logged thousands of minutes out on the soccer field, and millions of memories I will smile and laugh about forever. After my collegiate soccer career came to an end, I still wanted soccer to be a part of my life, so here I am now!! Also, this past October I got the awesome call that I was going to be a member of the United Soccer Coaches 30 Under 30 Class of 2021 - 2022!
I will always tailor my training sessions to whatever my players are looking for. I feel a lot of time the proper technique of how to do certain things on the field is overlooked or simply, there just isn't enough time to go over it at normal "team" training sessions. I really try to paint my players a picture of what I want them to achieve and why and then also, give them the tools to either A. add to their training/technique already, or B. give them tools to fix whatever might not be working for their game. I am a big advocate for asking players what they think, how they feel, and what's going through their minds, before, during, and after training. A player is only as good as they are letting themselves be. The mental mindset of personal training is so important, I want to empower my athletes to be great, be okay with making mistakes and work hard so they can walk away being proud of themselves.
An outline of training:
- fun, creative, dynamic warm-up/set a goal for that training session
- add ball - technical work
- hone in on the purpose of the session i.e. what they want to get better at
- progression 1 basics
- progression 2 level-up activity becomes hard
- explain/ask for feedback on what we just went over
- cool down / final challenge or activity
- 3 great things notebook: player highlights three great things that they did at training, I do not see it, they keep it to themselves
