More About Coach Greta
During my volleyball career, I have also coached in volleyball camps for athletes aged 6 to 18 years old. These camps focused on various volleyball techniques designed to enhance player development. Additionally, I had the opportunity to serve as an assistant coach for my club’s professional Serie A volleyball team for three months. This was part of a project initiated by my club to provide athletes with alternative career opportunities. Through this experience, I gained valuable insights into training techniques, individual athlete management, and team dynamics.
My volleyball career began when I was six years old in my hometown in Italy, eventually leading me to join Vero Volley, a club with two teams competing in Serie A. This marked the start of my most successful years. During my time at Vero Volley, I competed in four consecutive provincial finals, earning the MVP award three times, and advancing to the next stage of competition.
I was also selected twice for the "Trofeo delle Province," a tournament featuring the top 12 players from our province competing against other regional teams. Notably, I was chosen for the selection a year early, despite being younger than most participants.
At 16, I continued playing for Vero Volley, which had a partnership with Cislago, and that season, we finished as runners-up in the national championship. Over the next two years, we achieved remarkable success, winning the regional championship and reaching the national semifinals.
After my youth career, I sought a new experience and moved to Switzerland, playing Serie B for Bellinzona. This was a completely different style of play that broadened my perspective both as an athlete and a coach. During that year, I also coached the club’s U12 team. At the end of the season, I was offered a spot in Serie A with Lugano, but I decided to prioritize my education and returned to Italy.
Back in Italy, I spent four incredible years playing in Gorgonzola, which became the highlight of my volleyball career. Our team had an incredible chemistry, consistently making the playoffs for promotion to B1 in all four seasons.
However, my dream of experiencing volleyball in the U.S. became too strong to ignore, leading me to start the recruitment process. Auburn University at Montgomery offered me a full-ride scholarship to compete at the collegiate level. During my two seasons in college, we reached historic milestones for the program, achieving successes that had never been accomplished before.
During the summer, I also competed in the Italian Beach Volleyball Championship for four years, which further enriched my experience as a player by enhancing my technical skills, adaptability, and overall understanding of the game in a different setting.
Now, it’s time for me to give back everything that volleyball has taught me over the years, and I can't wait to start this new chapter.
I like to start by talking with the athletes to understand what they want to improve on, allowing me to create a specific plan tailored to their needs. My training sessions are structured into two main parts: the first focuses on technical skills and ball control, ensuring a strong foundation, while the second emphasizes movement on the court, positioning, and in-game decision-making.
If I am working with a group, I always incorporate gameplay to apply the skills in a real match scenario. If I am training an individual athlete, the session will be more technique-driven, concentrating on the areas they feel need the most improvement. I strongly believe in open communication between athlete and coach, as it is key to effective development and progress.
