More About Coach Gerardo
I began training a local girls team that participated in our city league. It was my first stance as a head coach. I feel in love with it immediately. To see an athlete grow in ability and confidence from session to session gives me a great feeling. I eventually tuned my philosophy and how i wanted to approach my calling as a coach. My first professional job started on the high school level. Texas high school soccer is a big deal. The high school level is 4-A and it is very competitive. My first year coaching I was awarded Coach Of The Year for our district which on personal and professional level meant a lot to me. Recently with a few years under my belt and a good understanding of what works and what doesn't work I have taking another step toward learning new ways of coaching the game I love. After last years season I had a couple of All-state players on my teams and was awarded Texas Association of Soccer Coachs All-State Coach of the year for Region 3 which was a great honor and it reinforces my philosophy of Coaching the beautiful game. I have also begun a path of certification with the U.S. Soccer Federation this last year in order to validate myself and continue growing as a coach.
Through out my early 20's i played in city leagues. I was part of a few teams in the north Texas soccer. But because of injury i failed to continue with the dream. That is where the passion comes from to still be part of the beautiful game and empower the youth into becoming great.
Most of my sessions are based on repetition-repetition and mental exercises. The beautiful game requires of mastery of many techniques and for every situation that you find yourself in during the match it requires a different technique to overcome your opponent or to create for your teammates. Lots of energy output for the fact that I don't really focus on conditioning. The conditioning is built into the drills that I present to my athletes. But over all even with all the hard work and how serious this is, one must ultimately have FUN!!
