More About Coach Garrett
I have a 'D' coaching license from the USSF and currently coach for the Charlotte Independence Soccer Club in both their Girls and Boys Youth Development Academies. I served as a player/coach for the University of Maryland club soccer team, and for my team which finished 4th and 5th in the world 3v3 soccer championships in 2011 and 2012. I have done individual coaching since 2013, helping high school athletes obtain scholarships at Ohio State, Maryland, and Queens University.
I have played soccer for twenty-six years, playing for Triangle United Gold in high school and for the UMD Club Soccer team. Since my days in college, I played for a 3v3 team that finished 4th and 5th in the world in consecutive years. For 11v11 I have played in the latino leagues throughout durham, chapel hill, and charlotte, winning the Bull City La Liga Championship
The sessions would be adapted to each player taking into account their age, skill level, position, strengths and areas of improvement. Usually we will start with reflex training/ball work (toe-taps, triangles, etc.) while also catching a tennis ball with one hand-- this is designed to improve coordination. Then, we will progress to first-touch technique work (trapping the ball out of the air with the inside/outside of each foot or turning with the ball.) After first-touch work, comes 1v1 working on a go-to move, with finishing. We end with a competition shooting drill, pushing the player to give their maximum effort against the coach. I emphasize correct technique and explain why we do things, and the reasoning behind them. My goal is not only to improve your technical ability, but for you to understand when and where you should be on the pitch.

Client Reviews
James (CoachUp client)
Was not reliable. He seemed like a good coach, but was just not reliable.

Stephanie Lewis/ Winger/Forward, Queens University (Testimonial)
Coach Garrett helped me take the next step in my senior season for Queens University. I learned so much about body positioning, eye-discipline, and finishing technique, allowing me to score more goals in my senior year than the rest of my Queen's career combined. I highly recommend Coach Garrett for anyone who is serious about taking their game to the next level.
