More About Coach Eugene

Over the past two years, I've worked with clients ranging from ages 9-16 for 1on1 trainings. As you can tell from my client reviews, as long as you're willing to listen and put in the work, I guarantee that you will see quick improvements in your game if you decide to train with me.

In addition to 1on1 training, I also coached a U-10 AAU team for the 2018-2019 season.

I played professionally in Ireland during the 2016-2017 season, captained our team, and scored 25ppg. Before playing in Ireland, I co-captained the Johns Hopkins University team. I finished my career at Hopkins just shy of 900 points and ranked 4th all-time in school history for three-point field goals made. I was named the scholar-athlete of the year for our conference during my senior season.

I played for St. Joseph's Prep in high school where I was a 3-year starter and 3-time All-Catholic selection. I was named the Senior League MVP, which is given to the top senior basketball player in the Philadelphia Catholic League. I also played AAU for the Jersey Shore Warriors.

A client can expect a workout that combines all of the necessary skills to succeed in basketball. Ball handling, shooting/form, and footwork will be the three major components to the session.

An example of a typical session would be a 5 minute warm-up (stretching, getting loose). After warming up, the client will do 5 minutes of footwork on the agility ladder, which I will provide. Next, the client will move on to ball handling. These drills include 2-ball dribbling, sideline to sideline dribbling incorporating crossovers/behind the backs/spins/through the legs/etc., and cone dribbling which emphasizes acceleration with the ball. After ball handling, the cline will work on form shooting. It's important to have the correct form and practice it repeatedly. The client will then "get shots up" which will be somewhere around 150-200 jumpers. These include coming off of screens, set shots, and pull up jumpers. Finally, the client will incorporate everything he/she has learned so far and do "chair work". This is where the client does one or two dribble moves with a chair acting as a defender. After the move, they will take a jumper. If the client is up for it, we can play 1on1 to finish off the workout.

These drills can be altered to fit the needs of the client. If the client is a beginner, I will make sure to coach/train at the right speed with more basic drills. If the client is more advanced, I will ramp up the drills and speed of the workout.

Client Reviews

We had a great first session with Eugene. He really worked well w/ my daughter and I can see more sessions to come soon.

Coach Gene is a has unique and highly effective method of teaching. Having played at the professional level (as recently as the 2017 season) as well as playing collegiately at a top university, where he was one of the basketball team captains, Coach Gene brings an extremely high basketball IQ to every lesson along with a high intensity training "ethic" that my son loves, and has not experienced previously. In addition, Coach Gene understands the importance of fundamentals, and the hard work necessary to become better, and he emphasizes these basics tailored to a students specific skill level.
In addition, because Coach Gene played professionally just last year, he is able to interactively train with his students as both a player and a coach, I highly recommend Coach Gene .

My son really liked working w Eugene. He liked the way Gene communicated instructions to him and how he provided feedback. He also stated he liked that they worked on some drills. He has asked to work with him again!

Coach Gene was great! Worked well with my son to assess his skills & give him ball handling & shooting drills to work on. Looking forward to future sessions to make good strides in my son’s game! Would certainly recommend him to others.

Gene was a perfect fit for my daughter. He introduced her to drills that were meaningful and fun for her. He's always very encouraging even when they are working on drills that were difficult for her. I would definitely recommend gene. David
Gene is one of the hardest working individuals I have come to know. Anyone who works with him will be sure to see great improvements in their game".
