More About Coach Emily
In my lifetime I have played a lot of softball. I played since I was 11 years old and started pitching when I was 13. I pitched 4 years of varsity softball at North Branch High school and then went on to play college ball for 4 years. I played 2 years at Macomb Community College and then 2 years of division 2 softball at Wayne State University. I was all conference both of my years at Macomb CC.
As far as my coaching experience, I have been coaching pitching lessons since I was 16. In addition to giving private lessons, I also coach a 16 and under travel softball team where I coach all aspects of the game but specifically pitching. Currently I still coach a travel team and make myself available for private lessons but I recently took on the position if pitching coach for the Macomb CC softball team. I enjoy coaching all ages but high school and college athletes have been my favorite so far.
A typical session with me would be me giving a lot of quality information while making it fun at the same time. There's too many coaches that just want to intimidate players and not teach them that softball is meant to be a fun time too and not just work. I like to make a lot of interesting and fun drills because I know what it's like being stuck at a boring practice doing tedious drills that achieve nothing. Although I do specialize in pitching, I am open to doing lessons to teach all aspects of the game. I am familiar with the RightView Pro and Coach's Eye programs and am willing to work with those as well.
In high school I was on Varsity all four years and was all conference my junior and senior years. At Macomb CC I was all conference both my freshman and sophomore years. While at Wayne state I did not achieve any individual honors but I was a part of two Gliac tournament championship teams.
As a coach, my first year of coaching a team, my travel team went 20-2 for their first summer while winning 2 of our 4 tournaments. I am still coaching the same group of girls and I will be going into my 3rd season with them this summer.
Usually during a first session with an athlete I just like to get to know them and how much ability they have. First I would have them warm up how they normally would without my instruction. Then after they have warmed up I would have them show me their skills so I can assess what the athlete already knows and where I must start with my instruction.
After learning about my new athlete, I would create drills that center around what the athlete needs to work on and what they feel they need improvement on.
