More About Coach Emily
My name is Emily Mangiaratti, I love to live, eat and breathe softball! I have been playing since I was very young and have always been fascinated by the strategy of the game. I played in college, earning many accolades my four years including an NCAA honor. As a natural lefty I specialize in drag bunting, slapping and hitting. I was also an outfielder for much of my career so I am readily able to teach outfield skills. I love getting down to the basics and taking it step by step. Currently I am a private hitting coach with my own facility in Woburn, MA and I also am the assistant coach of the Newbury College Nighthawks in Brookline, MA.
I was named all conference in each of my four years at Lesley College, clinching first team New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) honors in 2011, 2012, second team in 2010, and honorable mention in 2013. I had the amazing opportunity to be a part of four consecutive league championships while at Lesley and even got to attend the NCAA Division 3 playoffs all four years.
I was also recognized as an All New England player by the National Fast-pitch Coaches Association (NFCA) in 2010 (3rd team), 2011 (2nd team), and 2012 (2nd team). In 2011, I ranked as the national leader in runs per game scoring 47 runs while batting .441 with a team high 15 stolen bases. I also spent 4 years on my high school varsity team where I was the starting center fielder and lead-off batter. As a team we won the Western Mass Championship my junior year which was such a great experience! Now I feed my love of softball playing in both a slow pitch and modified fast-pitch league as well as assistant coaching a college team. Just because my college softball years are over doesn't mean I am going to stop playing or being involved in the game I love!
My coaching style is all about the client, what they feel they are struggling with the most, what they feel they need to work on. I like watching them and their style first before I jump right into correcting them. I realize that each player was coached differently and just because they hold their bat funny or go after a grounder in a way that I necessarily wouldn't doesn't mean that they are doing it wrong. Once I get the students style, and what they want to work on, I then make the necessary adjustments. I draw drills from my college days as well as my high school days to help make practice fun and fast paced.
