I am Edgardo Becerra, a dedicated soccer coach with over a decade of experience in youth player development, born in Lima, Peru, and raised in San Mateo, California. I turned professional as a player at age 19 in Peru, accumulating 25 years of playing experience before transitioning fully to coaching after an Achilles injury. Holding licenses from FIFA and U.S. Soccer, along with a degree in psychology and ongoing master’s studies in sports psychology, I bring a holistic approach to training that emphasizes technical, tactical, mental, and personal growth.
As the founder of 1991 Total Football Academy in San Diego—a non-profit focused on making elite training accessible regardless of financial background—I have partnered with the Argentinian National Team staff and Boca Juniors to implement world-class methodologies. My coaching roles include Head Coach for Surf Soccer Club’s Girls 2013 and 2014 teams, Technical Director at Legends FC San Diego, and private training for players from ages 3 to young adults aspiring to collegiate or professional levels. I specialize in skills like dribbling, passing, shooting, agility, and game tactics, tailoring sessions to individual strengths.
Key achievements include developing national champions and international talents, such as Samantha Weiss, who advanced to Argentina’s U-20 National Team and Columbia University. In 2024, I received the Hispanic Award of Coaching Excellence from United Soccer Coaches for my contributions to inclusive youth soccer. My philosophy centers on building trust, caring for players as individuals, and creating opportunities for all backgrounds to thrive in the sport. I am passionate about bridging gaps in player development and would bring this commitment to your organization.
As a 19 year old , I turned profesional in Lima , Peru. I have my degree in psychology and working on a masters in sports psychology. After tearing my Achilles heel , I no longer playing 11 v11 professionally however I am a free agent looking to compete in 7v7 indoor soccer or futsal professionally.
I have created a method for my clients to succeed in whatever stage of their career they may be. Beginning with physical endurance continued with fundamentals and followed by technique and tactical knowledge of the game. I will not only teach you how to play but also place you in a position to flourish based on your strengths. We will also talk formations and the responsibilities behind them.
Our sessions will be in that order while also having fun and playing pickup at the end of every practice. I DO NOT train goal keepers but I can refer you to some outstanding coaches who do.
