More About Coach Dennis

Experienced youth soccer coach with over 15 years of hands-on coaching experience with various youth level teams and individuals from the recreation level all the way up to High Tier Competitive Soccer. Currently, coach 2 teams at a local soccer club and 2 teams in house league while training athletes outside of a team setting. Start with 5-year-olds and up.

I hold a USSF License as well as several specialized topic certifications. I continue to attend many soccer coaching courses and seminars to continue my education.

Grew up in a soccer family where we were attending so many soccer games on the weekend between myself and my brother that we called McDonald's - "Mom's Kitchen". Still play occasionally myself in some "Over 40" games. Love the sport and watching kids develop and supporting them to reach their goals and dreams. This is my passion and my fun away from the stresses of full time desk job.

I focus on developing the touch on the ball and each session will focus at least a good component on getting a number of touches on the ball. A player should never stop focusing on their touch on the ball - it is key to the game. A player should feel confident in their touch that during competition and the stresses of the game he/she can focus on tactically what is best for their success.

I will also ask the player what they want to improve and focus on and include that in the session. Thru the sessions, I am constantly evaluating the player for his/her weaknesses and strengths and will create a session around that as well as providing feedback back to the player.

We train year-round with access to an indoor facility for training. Indoor session packages include the facility costs associated with each session.

Please check out my online courses. Your touch on the ball could be improved now in your living room even if it is without shoes and with only a small soft ball - it will work. The name of the game is getting those number of touches in and that can start now. Don't let weather or winter hold you down. The soccer player's development grows most away from his's or her's organized team practices. All he/she needs is a ball.

Coach Dennis is one of the best coaches my son ever had.He definitely helped my son to get to the next level.

My kids 12 yr old boy and 10 yr old daughter have just started training with coach Dennis. We are really excited at the quality of the training sessions he has prepared for them. He is really attuned in understanding their development needs, and thoughtfully preparing sessions to help them grow their skills in those areas.

We have clear objectives and desired outcomes and we are all really excited to continue the next stage of our kids development with the support of coach Dennis. I am confident coach Dennis will take our kids to new heights in their development and I'm excited to see where this partnership will go. Hope to provide an update on our progress in the near future.

My 7yo son really wants to learn how to play soccer, but he can be emotional and get frustrated easily so new experiences can be hit or miss. Coach Dennis was really helpful to get the lesson scheduled, answer my questions, and respond quickly. During the lesson he was wonderful with my son and helped him to feel like he was doing well while making progress. I was able to see progress as I watched. After we left the lesson, my son asked me if he had another one the next day.

First session was great. Lots of good core values and training.

Coach Dennis was such a great coach! During the first trial session, he was teaching my son from the basic yet very essential techniques so thoroughly. He was really paying attention on my son's moves and corrected them. My son loves working with him and gained confidence on playing soccer. We are definitely looking forward to next sessions!

We met with Coach Dennis for my 10 year old son. Coach Denis made him comfortable in the first session itself. He enjoyed his session and appreciated all the little tweaks Coach asked him to do. My son was much more confident after this session. I could see Coach Denise was very organized and came prepared with a plan for him. The session was intense and well organized touching different skills and activities. He gave my son some drills he can do himself at home which I see him doing it already without me reminding him. We are definitely looking forward to our next session.

Dennis was great with my daughter.! She enjoyed her time with him and she can’t wait for her next session.

Coach Dennis did a great job with my 10 year old son by running multiple drills using different techniques such as moving ladders, multiple balls and moving targets. Will will use him again.

In looking for a one-on-one soccer trainer for our daughter, we found CoachUp.com. After finding Coach Dennis in our area and reading his reviews, we opted to give a session a try. Of course we knew she would be nervous, Dennis was great to eventually make her feel more at ease during their session. After, she asked if she could train with him again. Second session completely, and she is enjoying her time! Coach Dennis really takes the time to watch, assess, challenge, and give feedback/corrections in a way she gets and applies. And, practices at home so we know she is taking it all in. We thoroughly have enjoyed her sessions thus far and know we found a solid coach/trainer for her in between her normal team/games.

It was a pleasure meeting Coach Dennis. My son said Coach Dennis was easy to work with and my son was able to understand what he was able teach.

Coach Dennis is very knowledgeable and works great with kids. My son looks forward to working with him going forward to improve his soccer skills.

Dennis is a great coach! Very accommodating with scheduling, approachable, organized and well prepared. My kids had excellent training session with him. They both had a great time and learned few tips that will improve their soccer skills. We'll definitely be booking more sessions with coach Dennis!

Dennis was very warm and kind and my daughter took to him immediately. He complimented her on what she did well and gave understandable direction when needed. Dennis was well prepared with his equipment and he efficiently and methodically moved from one exercise to the next all while keeping the mind and body challenged. Excellent and highly recommended.

Coach Dennis is an amazing coach. He definitely made my son comfortable and made him feel really confident. His training sessions are very detailed yet fun. We had an excellent experience and my son is looking forward to his next training session.

I brought my daughter to only 1 session with Coach Dennis so far. These are some of the characteristics of that session.
1. When we arrived at the field, which was a new location for us, Coach Dennis was there and was prepared and ready to go. We were 2-3 minutes late, but he extended her training time 5 minutes beyond the hour. I appreciate that.
3. Coach Dennis began by quickly and methodically assessing my daughter's soccer dribbling skills in the first 15 minutes. He would demonstrate a dribbling skill, and my daughter would attempt it. He seemed to go from easy to hard ball touch skills. If a skill proved to be too hard for her, he immediately reduced to a medium level skill.
4. After that he worked with her on shooting. He demonstrated, and then watched her perform ball strikes over, and over, and over again, providing feedback and suggestions all of the time. It seemed to be very classic techniques of soccer shooting: body lean, knee position, ankle angle, foot strike location, ball strike location, step approach, plant foot location, leg swing, arm swing, follow through, landing foot, etc, etc.
5. WIth the tons of repitition and constant feedback, I believed that my daughter's stike improved throughout the first session. Most importantly, my daughter believed that she was improving and by the time the session was over, she felt confident about striking the soccer ball for the first time in a while.
6. Coach Dennis ended the session by telling her what foot skills to work on at home. My daughter's team coach never demanded or expected the girls to do anything outside of team practice. I, as a dad want my daughter to practice at home, this is easier when the coach expects it as well.

In summary, Coach Dennis is very professional, observant, and very well prepared. He runs an intense session with a lot of repitition He worked her for the entire hour plus with a few water breaks. Coach Dennis instructs in a calm manner- he is not a yeller. We saw immediate results, and I plan to schedule more sessions for my daughter with him.

Coach Dennis Willms provided 1:1 training to my son in Fall 2016. He assessed my son's strengths and determined the areas in which he could most improve, including learning a wider variety of passing techniques (they worked on better control of chip and driven passes) and developing stronger, better positioned shots on goal. My son was thoroughly engaged by Coach Dennis' training and homework, feeling encouraged and motivated to put in extra time both after practice and at home. His game has improved immensely as a result, being able to target his passes with the right weight, and taking long, accurate shots on goal. He talks all the time about how Coach Dennis got him shooting with the right part of his foot, kicking the right spot on the ball, to get the shot where he wants it. As parents, we really love Coach Dennis' coaching style; he is meticulous in his training plans and thoughtful about how he speaks to and motivates the boys. His passion for soccer and coaching comes through in all that he does. We highly recommend him as a coach and a person!
My son is now 14 years old and has played soccer under Coach Willms for the past seven years. Each year my son has develop his skills physically, as well as mentally. His style of coaching is speaking, NEVER yelling, which at a young age helps players develop and not get discouraged by hearing their coach yell in the background. Coach Willms has a way that draws the kids in and then they feel the passion that coach Willms has towards the sport of soccer. It is evident that the kids develop the same passion as the level of play may start at one level but ends many higher. His focus has always been on the long term development, not just kick the ball and out run the opponent, which is huge for the game of soccer. In fact, he uses current technology to continue skills at home with a visual demonstration and improve their skills. Coach Willms also always develops the player individually, but providing a detailed evaluations that include the following skills: attitude, behavior competitiveness attendance, athletic ability, ball control, fitness level, receiving & preparing the ball, passing, heading, team/group play, communication, knowledge of positions, attacking ability, and finally defending ability. I know as a teacher and a HS varsity coach this takes time and a great deal of effort to complete evaluation for each player that is honest and not cookie cutter. He has been able to pin point each and every skill that my son do positively or that he needs to improve and is always spot on! My son is moving on to High school and he hopes to continue to be on team with Coach Willms as he has been a tremendous influence on my son's love of soccer and his future in playing. Thanks for listening
My son has worked with Coach Dennis for 5 years and he provides Cade the best technical training by far we've ever had. Coach Dennis has improved both Cade's physical game and mental game. He also brings a positive energy to his coaching style combined with patience and competitive spirit that blend well together in preparing our son to compete at the highest level on the soccer field.
