More About Coach David

I have been playing and teaching the competitive sport of volleyball for over 10 years, throughout the Greater Philadelphia Area. My experience encompasses teaching volleyball at the Collegiate, High School and Junior Olympic levels. I am also a student of Bae Qing Liu who is the technical director of DVA Volleball. Bae Qing, has over 30 years experience in coaching and has produced 8 Chinese Olympians.

I started my coaching career working as an assistant with several Junior Olympic volleyball clubs including Northampton Volleyball, Synergy, and Buxmont. After gaining experience at the club level I was recruited to be the head volleyball coach at the Academy of the New Church a DIII Collegiate Program. For the last several years I have been with Delaware Volleyball Academy and I have held both assistant and head coaching positions at the academy. I am also the Villanova Club Director of DVA and is also the DVA Club Director for Player Development.

Some of my accomplishments include coaching a player currently on the Women’s National Olympic team (Silver Medal Winners in 2008), coached a number of students who made DI, DII, & DIII collegiate teams and I have helped many club teams win several Junior Olympic Tournaments on the Regional & National level. In 2011 I helped one of DVA’s athletes in obtaining a D1 scholarship to a top 25 program. I am Impact Certified and a member of KRVA, CHRVA, AAU and other volleyball associations.

Coaching Philosophy:

To teach the competitive sport of volleyball that fosters individual growth and team unity
Assuring that new players learn the sport of volleyball which is consistent with my coaching philosophy and working with veteran athletes to enhance their skills and break-down bad habits.

My practices and lessons include a variety of offensive and defensive training sessions at a high rep, fast pace environment. I believe the more touches you can get on a volleyball the easier it is for muscle memory to develop. I also spend alot of time developing students serves, as it is the most important way you can score points.

I typically use progression drills during lessons. Each drill increases with difficulty or incorporates the entire skill or movement that the student is working.

Sessions are typically customized to the players/parents goals. Once it has been discussed I taylor a practice plan based on our initial consultation. Typical sessions may include:
serving, passing, hitting, setting,etc.

Client Reviews

My daughter is taking lessons from David and she absolutely loves it. She has improved so much with everything and really changed as a player. David's an amazing coach, he knows what he's doing. These lessons have really taken us a long way. Carmen-parent
Dave does an excellent job of explaining an approach or skill in several ways so that our daughters can understand what they need to do. He can relate the skills to both our 10 year old and 16 year old. Our 10 year old is almost able to serve overhand from the back line! My husband took one lesson from him and was able to immediately see improvement in his serves. His instruction is excellent, and we trust him." -- Signed Alisa & Marty C.
