More About Coach Dave
I played soccer at Barclay College, my main position was defense. I had the opportunity to be an assistant coach for a soccer club and camp during my time at Barclay. I worked with the La Junta, Colorado youth soccer league as an assistant coach and referee. I filled in as head coach for a youth soccer league in Georgetown, Illinois. I am a Level 1 Accredited Interscholastic Coach certified through National Federation of State High School Association in track and field and soccer-NFHS. I am also certified in sports and general first aid, as well as an instructor in sports and general first aid through the American Red Cross. I officiated high school soccer in Indianapolis, Indiana and surrounding areas during the 2015 season.
I received the most improved player award in college. During one game as head coach, the team was not playing well; they were not focused as they should have been. During half time I was able to communicate with them what needed to get done with encouragement, motivation, and a "little fire" under their feet. They played much better the second half.
Conditioning along with skill is very important. During the first week or two we will focus on the basic soccer drills-dribbling, trapping, and passing, along with conditioning. Dribbling drills and passing drills will consist of foot placement on the ball, laces, inside and outside of foot. As we progress will focus on advanced skills such as cutting and turning the ball, change direction and speed. We will also work on controlling the ball as we trap it with our feet, thigh, and chest. It is always a good feeling when we score therefore we will work on dribbling to shoot the ball into the net. Now as a defender it is important to keep the ball away from the net so we will work on drills at skills that will help the goalie and keep the attackers at bay. For those wanting to play goalie we will work on positioning, cutting off angles, and attacking the ball, thus keeping the ball out of the net.
