More About Coach Dan

I have been coaching for 20 years at the youth, high school and Division 1 collegiate level. I began my career as Head Coach At UNC Greensboro in 1997 where I turned a bottom tier program into a Southern Conference challenger within 2 years. Following UNC Greensboro I took a leave of absence to serve on active duty in the US Marine Corps but stayed involved in coaching youth athletes on base. I returned to full time coaching in 2013 when I was hired as the head coach at Southington High School. Since arriving at Southington, the cross country team has advance to the CT state open on multiple occasions, athletes have broken 43 of the 96 possible school records. I began coaching junior high athletes in 2017 with multiple to runners in CT. Was the 2016 Brooks Coach of the Year Finalist thanks to a phenomenal team and Booster Club.
USATF Level 1 and 2 distance coach.

Former All-Big East 800/1500 meter runner at Georgetown with PR's of 1:49.3 and 3:52. Ran as 5-7 man in Cross Country and competed at Div 1 National Championships in Cross Country. Former Texas State Champion in 1600.

I will work with athlete and parents to develop season and long term training and racing plan using Final Surge to communicate regularly. This is a collaborative process to understand what is most effective for the individual athlete. I pay special attention to injury prevention through lower extremity drills and core development.

I only take on a few clients to ensure quality instruction for the athletes. As well, I only take on highly motivated athletes who are committed to growing as a runner. A typical client is high school or middle school athlete that does not have a coach at their school. I will not work in conflict with an athlete who already has a school coach unless that coach is fully on board. Coaching is focused on workout design and can be done at your own practice site. I would also like to meet up somewhat regularly to teach drills and get in person feedback. We can meet at agreed upon track for these sessions. Please book a single first session determine if this is a good match for coach/athlete.

Program also works direct with athletes with parents supporting the program. It is a crawl, walk, run with empowering athletes to communicate on their own about workouts and progress. Parents are kept well in the loop, but this is opportunity for athletes to find their voice.

If you're looking to book a package, please email me first. My availability online isn't going to be accurate each week. My schedule varies considerably per week so we'll just need to work out a time that works for both of us.
