More About Coach Chelsey

Throughout high school and college, I coached athletes from various teams, athletic associations, and ages. I was a pitching coach for Creeks Athletic Association for 4/5 years, and I have worked with athletes ranging from ages 8 to 15 years old (elementary to high school level athletes)

I began pitching in middle school and worked my way up to a D1 college. One of my proudest moments as an athlete is setting the record (and still holding it) for having the most wins of any pitcher to come out of Bartram Trail High School. I have competed at the state level, in high school, back to back years. In college, I was part of the pitching staff to make history, as we made it to the Championship game of the A-10 Conference.

Typically, I like to focus on the fundamentals of pitching; once these are mastered, I then like to focus on areas such as accuracy, speed, mental game, and developing different pitches. At the start, I will focus on basic "flips," in order to make sure the athlete knows the correct spin of the ball (fastball) and the correct grip. From there, we would work our way back (farther away from the catcher) to T-Drills, drills from one knee, walk-throughs, etc. I always like to finish the pitching session off with a mock count to a batter (pretending to be pitching to a batter for one count).

My 13 year old daughter decided she wanted to learn how to pitch. Chelsey has been great. She teaches straight from fundamentals. Definitely will continue to work with her.

My daughter had her first session with Coach Chelsey yesterday. We were both very impressed! Chelsey focuses on the basics and mechanics first - how to hold the ball, where to hold your arms, leg placement and movement - making sure that everything is correct so that you can move to the next level. My daughter has pitched for several years but never had formal coaching. Even after one session I can see this is going to make a big difference. We're very impressed with Coach Chelsey! Can't wait for our next session.
