More About Coach Charlie
I have coached both back home in the U.K and here in America. Most recently working for St. Thomas Aquinas college in both the men's and women's programme as an assistant coach, here in New York. I gained valuable experience in youth soccer when coaching at Gitch youth soccer club in Minnesota. I have also coached at secondary school level back in England. I have worked with pretty much all age groups ranging from four-year-olds up to collegiate players.
I am currently competing at the collegiate level here in New York after spending two years in Minnesota where I played in two national tournaments. I played in the national youth alliance leagues back home in England for Brockenhurst college and reached the national cup final, held at St. Geroge's Park the year prior to coming out to the U.S. I was also part of the center of excellence at Southampton F.C during youth soccer back home in the U.K.
I always start with a fun warm up engaging the players from the off, this will involve some sort of game to get the heart rate going as well as including some dynamic stretching to avoid any muscular injuries. I like to ensure that young players are mastering the basics of the game before going on to anything too difficult. Therefore, I will try to involve many different aspects into each session like shooting, passing and dribbling. I always like to give the players an opportunity to practice what they have been learning in the session at the end to see how they can put this into a match like situation. I like to work out an athlete by pushing them slightly throughout sessions to see how they react to new challenges, this often leads to their personality coming through. Therefore, I can see what level they can play at and what actions I will have to take to ensure they are improving in every session I take for them.
