More About Coach Blake
I have most recently interned at EXOS, spring of 2018, as a performance specialist. While there, I got the opportunity to train military athletes, professional athletes, and high school athletes. Our training was all encompassing focusing on speed, agility, power, general strength and energy system development. I hold an EXOS Performance Specialist certification as well as an ACSM Personal Trainer certification.
I played four years of division 1 soccer at Georgia Southern University as a striker. I scored 15 goals and 4 assists in 3 seasons (1 season injured) and earned All Sunbelt conference 1st team, 3 x offensive player of the week, All Sunbelt tournament 1st team and All sunbelt conference 2nd team. I am currently pursuing a professional contract in my first year out of college and have been on trial with the Tampa Bay Rowdies, Birmingham Legion and Tormenta FC.
I would start with a thorough warmup focusing on mobility and stability along with neurological activation to prepare for the session. I would then have the athletes go through a series of ladder drills for agility and plyometric work to develop power and force transfer which is so important in soccer. Then we would get on the ball and get a lot of touches in. I would put the athletes through a series of ball drills and then get into some one and two touch passing around cones, through ladders, etc. Then we would get into position specific training. For example, for strikers we would work on one touch finishing, crossing finishing, back to goal link up play, etc. I would have a midfielder train his/her range of passing while adding game situation stimulus throughout as well as some finishing. every session would have a thorough cool down to prevent soreness and injury.
