More About Coach Aria

Aria Fazelimanesh, head squash coach at UCLA, was introduced to squash by his dad when he was only seven years old. What started as a fun father son activity, soon became a passion for Aria. After joining the Iranian Junior National Team, he played in tournaments all around the world, eventually bringing home the first international medal in the history of Iranian Squash. At age fifteen his family moved to the US, where he quickly became the US junior national champion and played for his high school team where he went undefeated. He was recruited by the University of Rochester, and in his junior year the team reached the finals of the Division one National Championship. Aria’s experiences in squash have taught him invaluable life lessons and through Squash he hopes to expose others to all squash has to offer.

I played number 5 to 7 on the university of Rochester men's varsity squash team. As a team we were ranked #1 in the country in 2016-17 season and national championship finalists in 2015-16 season for the first time in the history of rochester squash. As a junior player I played on the men's national team of Iran until the age of 16 and was ranked number 1 in all divisions both in the US and Iran.

I would start with a good dynamic warm up fro 5-10 minutes, then move onto drills that focuses on the basic aspects of the game and they are usually for the long term goals of the client. I would work on things such as straight drive and their deep court game and how to lift the ball under pressure. For the rest of the session I would work on the attacking part of the client's game. The drill for this involves more physical movement and works on the client's fitness and movement on the court.
