More About Coach Angela

I am a passionate field hockey coach with experience coaching athletes of all ages. I am USFHA Level 1 Certified. Following my college field hockey career at Towson University, I went on to become a Volunteer Assistant Coach at the Division 1 level for Towson University for two years. After becoming a teacher in Baltimore I joined the coaching staff at Friends School of Baltimore, a private school in Baltimore City. I have now been the Head Varsity Field Hockey Coach at Friends School of Baltimore for 5 years, taking my team to the Conference Championship back to back in my two most recent seasons and winning the Conference Championship in the 2019 Fall Season. In 2017-2018 I took a year to play and coach field hockey around the world in Malaysia, Spain, South Africa, Argentina, and Peru. In this experience I have gained the knowledge of many different hockey skills, philosophies, and styles of the game played around the world. I have also coached various age groups in summer camps in Pennsylvania and Maryland for the past 10 years. My coaching style brings in many aspects from my experiences playing and coaching abroad and from the many skilled and experienced coaches I had the pleasure working with. I strive to instill a drive for mental and physical perseverance through a constant growing knowledge of real game time decision making and skill development.

I was a dedicated Division 1 student-athlete that continues my love of the game through the joy of coaching and leading young athletes to achieve their goals. I was a four year starter for Towson University and continue to hold the school record for number of penalty strokes scored in a career. I primarily played center midfield, but have experience playing forward and defense for Towson University. I have played for local club teams in countries around the world including Canada, Argentina, Spain, South Africa, Malaysia, Guyana, and Peru. I continue to play in the adult field hockey community in the Baltimore and D.C. area, traveling to numerous states around the U.S.
In my high school career I was named all-conference 1st team my Sophomore, Junior, and Senior year at Annville-Cleona High School in Annville, PA. In my senior year I was given the award for Athlete of the year in the sport of Field Hockey.

I design my sessions based on my players current skill level and desired skills and concepts they want to learn or improve upon. I combine skills development with agilities and game time decision making skills so they can best apply their learning directly to the game of field hockey. I aim to make all drills game like, pushing athletes to improve their physical and mental skills simultaneously.
For example; stick skill improvement activities on the move, dynamic shooting drills on the move, the breakdown of specific skills (ie: shots, drives, passes) through my analyzing of the players demonstration and then addressing specific changes for improvement through coach modeling and explanation, and inquiry based game tactic drills for players to learn by doing rather than lecture style.
