More About Coach Andrew

As a coach, helping players improve is the most rewarding part of my job, and I can't think of a better way to grow the sport that I love. I am IMPACT certified, am the current head coach of the girls 13s-White team at Santa Barbara Volleyball Club, and have also coached youth athletes in the club's Blenders division, MadSkillz camp, and Volley Pints program. I also served as a volunteer assistant coach for the UCSB women's team and the SBCC men's teams. I am also an NASM Certified Personal Trainer, and use my knowledge to design fitness programs to be used on and off the court, by athletes of all ages.

I played club volleyball for 7 years, on top of 4 years in high school. During that time I helped my team win a bronze medal at the 2008 Junior Olympics, and was named to the All-Tournament Team. Along with taking 3rd in the nation that year, I was selected to the Channel League First-Team, for the second of three times during high school. After high school I played one year at CSU Northridge, before returning to Santa Barbara, and playing another season at SBCC. I still play regularly in CBVA (California Beach Volleyball Association) tournaments, and high level indoor leagues in Santa Barbara, as well as tournaments in the LA area.

Working hard and remaining focused are necessities during my sessions because I like to challenge my athletes physically by focusing on technique, mechanics, and the fitness that comes with those; and mentally by not just telling them the correct way to use a skill, but asking the athlete to identify what went right or wrong before making a change, in conjunction with explaining WHY a particular skill is performed the way it is. Sessions will begin with a Dynamic Range Of Motion (DROM) warm up (5-10 minutes), then immediately move to skill-specific drills. I work with those that need technical development of specific skills, but those who are more advanced will receive a regiment consisting of technique, proper movement patterns, and fitness.
