The first thing I always teach an athlete is proper footwork and body positioning. Ball control is the most important aspect of volleyball. All my athletes are taught to be go getters who are not afraid to hit the floor.
After defensive and ball control techniques are established, I teach offensive skills with a strong emphasis on proper spiking technique so as to be consistent and avoid injury.
I use different teaching methods including practicing with non-dominant sides to establish a transfer of learning. I use visual and audio cues to help students learn how to see and feel what they've done when making a mistake and thus, coach themselves.
I have learned these techniques through college as I achieved my degree in Sport and Exercise and minored in Psychology. I have done a lot of research in mental training techniques, and have extensively studied positive coaching, as well as, motor learning and development of athletes.

Client Reviews
TJ Henzgen - Outside Hitter - University of Northern Colorado Men's Club Volleyball Team 2011-2014 (Testimonial)
I met Alex at the University of Northern Colorado and was a player on the college club volleyball team that he coached. Colorado lacks a large quantity of skilled men’s volleyball players, but this did not stop Alex from building a team. He sought out 6 athletic guys with no experience and within three months, had them playing at club level. Alex’s attention to mechanics helps players develop good habits and learn each aspect of the game. He developed his own custom drills to accommodate the specific shortcomings of each player. I am very impressed with Alex’s knowledge of the game, but even more so his ability to relate to his players. His instruction is friendly and constructive, and everyone he coaches sees him as a friend.
