More About Coach Alec

Focusing on the U11-U15 age group, my coaching experience revolves around developmental lacrosse skills at a young age. I currently coach Victory Lacrosse in Columbia, South Carolina in this age group, and will continue coaching Victory this summer for the U13-U17 high school level. This is my first year being able to coach consistently for the league, but have aided both Victory Lacrosse as well as Blythewood High School in the past for several practices.

All the lacrosse IQ won't matter at all if the fundamentals aren't there. My aim is to carry on the same lessons that I’ve been taught to the next generation, beginning with repetition and drive. I learned at a young age that lacrosse is a highly detail-oriented game that required plenty of work input. As I grew into playing at the high school level, I learned about the real-world mental and physical adversity interwoven into each rep, practice and game. Had it not been for my own coaches and teammates, I would have gone playing the game with the wrong mindset. My goal is to instill younger players with the same values that I was given when I was their age, allowing me to play and coach at the level I do today. While I believe in and utilize the power of positive reinforcement (this game can be frustrating to the beginner), I aim to make sure that each kid understands that playing this game requires dedication, humility, being a leader and being coachable!

I first began playing Lacrosse in fifth grade and continued throughout my high school career in both Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (Seneca Valley High School) as well as Columbia, South Carolina (Blythewood High School), serving as a varsity captain and being part of the first team to reach the SC state playoffs under Coach Kirk Thurston. For the 2018-19 season, I will be playing for the University of South Carolina as a Midfielder. In my time away from playing, I have turned my attention to the realm of coaching at both the middle school and high school level.

A typical session will include:
- Fundamental, dynamic warm-up techniques
- Offensive & Defensive movement
- Ground ball drills
- Stick Skill Mechanics
- Scoring accuracy/consistency
- Emphasis on humility & sportsmanship
- Repetition!
