More About Coach Adam

English born and raised, i recently moved to sunny California. I have coaching qualifications in England and the US, which is underpinned by a BA Honors in sport coaching degree.

Based in Santa Maria, California. I am an Accomplished, professional and organized soccer coach with over 10 years experience of providing effective coaching for participation based sessions and for performance based teams. These experiences range from, working in primary schools, high school football teams, local community coaching clubs, and sport development units.

I have gained experience coaching in various countries in aid of improving my coaching experience in different cultures, and how to adapt my coaching to their needs. I am always studying the game of football (soccer) and study different coaching techniques by attending professional games, coaching seminars, and coaching sessions. I also keep my methods updated by reading and researching modern coaching techniques, articles, books, and online material.

I've held coaching positions at the following companies:

SPORT ACTIVITY CO-ORDINATOR (BURNLEY BOROUGH COUNCIL)
- Working for the local council, I was required to plan, prepare, and deliver soccer tournaments and leagues within the community. The position was created to target anti social behavior, and try to influence teenagers to stop being on the streets. The government had identified that teenagers were more likely to be involved with anti social behavior and break the law whilst congregating on the streets. I had to overlook and delegate roles for four coaches beneath me, in hopes of delivering a fun, safe soccer experience for everyone.

U.K.I.S.C. SOCCER CAMP DIRECTOR (UK INTERNATIONAL SOCCER CAMPS)
- Managed and Collaborated with team of several other soccer coaches in the development of children's football abilities. Required to organize, plan and execute a weeklong soccer camp in numerous locations. Providing quality coaching, for children aged 4-16 years old in a plethora of cities throughout California during the summer of 2011. This included preparing coaching content, delivering sessions and handling finances and medical issues.

HIGH SCHOOL SOCCER TEAM HEAD COACH
- Sir John Thursby's high school employed me and two other coaches with assisting the year 7 male soccer team. The team had performance-based objectives, which we as a coaching team had to achieve. This gave me the opportunity to work in a performance-based team, and sharpen my coaching skills

HEAD COACH (KIDZ IN 2 ALLSPORTS)
- Organized and delivered sessions for numerous primary schools, which included approaching, discussing and finalizing coaching contracts with customers and coaches. I worked with this private owned company for several years, which gave me the opportunity to work with a wide range of ages and abilities.

UNDER 16’s HEAD COACH (LOWERHOUSE JUNIOR FC)
- Collaborated with one other coach in developing football within children. I was required to plan, prepare and deliver soccer sessions for 20 children, aged from 5-16 years old. This role also involves administrative responsibilities.

LANWAY FC PLAYER/MANAGER (SEMI-PRO)
- Responsible for managing and playing within a male adult soccer team. This role required me to coach technical, tactical, physical and mental aspects for the team. Administrative duties were also under my responsibilities, such as financial management, league management and player management.

WHITTLEFIELD PRIMARY SCHOOL SOCCER COACH
- Responsible for planning and delivering safe, fun and educational soccer sessions for children aged up to 10 years old.

I have playing experience at professional academy, university and numerous traveling men's team. I was recently apart of the north west championship men's side from Burnley.

BURNLEY F.C. FOOTBALL ACADEMY
- Scouted and offered a youth contract by my towns local professional football team; I experienced several years under their tenure, ultimately ending in being released after injuries and ability of not being able to participate at the required standard. I received coaching and mentoring from some notable ex professional players, such as Bradley Pates, David Campbell and Jerry Harrison.

RAILWAY F.C. (Semi-Pro)
- Playing as a right central defender, I played 3 years for this team, winning 3 league titles, 2 cup trophies, and being nominated as defender of the season once.

LANWAY F.C. (SEMI-PRO)
- Playing as a central midfielder and managing the team, I represented Lanway F.C. for 2 years, winning 1 league title and runners up in the league cup tournament.

I like to sit down with a player at our first meeting and discuss goals and objectives that both me and the player wish to achieve by the end of our relationship. With this information I will develop a personal coaching program that will develop the athlete in all aspects of the game, focussing on technical skills predominantly.

I structure the session starting with the technique in isolation, without pressure, and slowly develop the session by adding game relatable situations and opposition. Below is an example of one of my group coaching sessions. It doesn't give me the capability to show diagrams, but it gives you an insight on how I structure sessions.

Session 1:

Passing in Two’s: One touch on the ground; two touch, ground, ground air; heading back and forth; driven long balls; curling balls; etc. GK’s on their own. Time: 15 min.

Coaching points: Keep the ball moving; ask the players to be sharp with the touches. Be positive; generate enthusiasm. Emphasize some creativity. Remember to build the players self esteem throughout the training session, comments should be 4:1 positive to instructional.

Session 2:

2 groups of 5v3+1: 2 groups in a grid about 30x40 yards. The 5 players are on the outside while the +1 is in the middle who is the play maker. The three in the middle, when they get the ball, can just give it back or if you want a transition, they can keep the ball while the 5 try to win it back. Allow the +1 to be “lazy” on the defensive side of things. Be sure to switch the play maker. GK’s on their own. Time: 15 min.

Coaching Points: Work with the Play maker in the middle along with the players around to compliment one another. You can limit the number of touches that the outside players my use. Keep the fundamentals in mind. Don’t over due the play makers instructions. Remember to compliment the whole team and explain to the other players the purpose. Buy in is very important!

Session 3:

6v6v6: Two teams play against one. The team that looses possession becomes defending team. 10 passes equal a point. Time: 15 min.

Coaching Points: Movement off the ball, good angles of support, and quick communication.

Session 4:

8v8 w/ GK’s: Mark the penalty boxes. Align the teams in 2-4-2 formations. Note: if needed use the top of the goalie boxes to enforce the offside rule. Time: 25 mins

Coaching Points: Get players excited about playing and keeping the ball. Become a fan of their passing and composure.

Berat Mjekiqi 1 Heltson Close Burnley To Whom It May Concern: I write in good grace, in recommendation for Adam McEvoy. I have worked with Adam for numerous seasons and soccer teams. Ranging from a performance oriented team to a company that provides school children access to soccer (KidzIn2Allsports). I am amazed at the ease and professionalism which Adam can fulfill a variety of tasks. He has worked with me not only as a fellow coach, but also as a tutor to myself, teaching me new techniques, methods and philosophies about soccer coaching. He brings so much more to a team than just your everyday coach, Adam will bring a philosophy, lifestyle and idea to your team, he will look to see ways how he can improve every aspect that surrounds your soccer team, from attendance to funding. For his age he shows a great knowledge and understanding of soccer, and the art of coaching it. I am sure these areas have been built from him studying soccer coaching at university, and it refreshed me and all our other coaches to see such a knowledgeable coach join our team. I am confident that Adam’s intelligence and maturity will be great assets in any organization, and that sooner or later; Adam is destined to reach the highest heights of soccer coaching. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions. Kind Regards, Berat Mjekiqi, Head Coach
To Whom It May Concern From Mr. Philip Drury Regarding Mr. Adam McEvoy It is with great satisfaction that I provide you with a recommendation for Adam McEvoy. I have had the pleasure of knowing Adam for 9 years and more importantly have experienced the enjoyment of coaching alongside him for most of them years. I have coached beside Adam on more than one occasion and I can honestly say that on both accounts I have not only greatly enjoyed working alongside him but also envied his ability to coach at different age groups and ability groups. Whilst coaching with Adam at Lowerhouse Juniors F.C. it was interesting to see how much his coaching philosophy affected those around him. From developing other coaches and participants, who responded to it by positive developing results. The way he sets up and delivers sessions is in a very professional manner with knowledge of knowing when to provide breaks, develop the session and help individuals that maybe under achieving shows his passion and knowledge for the sport. During his time working with me his loyalty to more than one development group was exciting and his willingness to help those around him was outstanding. Adams attitude towards his peers and participants throughout the time he was with Lowerhouse Juniors F.C. earned him a huge amount of respect, with many people looking up to him and sometimes asking him of his own opinion on certain aspects on where and how the club can improve, this I believe is due to his positive attitude, his drive to become better as a coach, and his wide range of knowledge within football. Adam possesses traits and knowledge to equip him to keep developing into an even greater coach. His drive and demand for improvement is the best characteristic about him. Adam has the demand in himself to become better and better and for someone of his age to have that drive is special.
