More About Coach Grant

I was a senior captain and four-year member of the lacrosse team at Wesleyan University where I played goalie. I was selected as an NCAA All-American as well as a 3x NESCAC All-Academic.

During my time attending Wesleyan I worked as an assistant coach to a local youth lacrosse team and helped to organize and run tournaments and clinics. These experiences, coupled with my own extensive private training growing up, has helped me to develop my coaching practices that I feel can help improve any player's game, particularly goalies.

I have experience working with players of all ages, but I feel that I can have the greatest impact coaching teenagers. Also as a goalie I feel that I can best help goalies and defenders, but I am a student of the game and so I am confident in my ability to help players of any position. One of my main focuses is to not only develop athletic skills, but also mental toughness. I believe that mental toughness is one of the distinguishing characteristics that separates good players from great players.

I start my sessions by having a short conversation with my player to try to gauge their skill level and what they hope to accomplish. I then transition into a dynamic workout in order to ensure they are properly stretched and warmed up. Next I'll run them through a variety of stick-work drills with an emphasis on repetition. Depending on if I am working with a goalie, middie, attack or defender I then transition into position specific drills. During this time I run them through a variety of drills which require the assistance of another player, as well as drills which they can do on their own. I do my best to help them understand each drill so that they can practice in their own free time. My hope is that my coaching sessions not only help my players feel and immediate improvement, but also inspires them to practice in their free time at home.
