More About Coach Cordell

I have 5 years of college coaching experience and 8 years as an Assistant Athletic Director at the college level. In addition to that experience, I have coached basketball at the youth developmental level for over 25 years. In sum, I have coached and trained children, young adults, and adults ranging from ages 8-35. I am CPR, AED, and Concussion In Sports certified.

I played two years of College Junior Varsity at John Jay College of Criminal Justice from 1988-1990 and earned back to back team MVP's. I averaged 25 and 30 points per game respectively and was team captain. From 1990-92, I started on the Varsity team and averaged 10 and 26 points per game respectively. The 26 points per game average during the 1991-92 season is still a school record to this day. I was also voted team MVP by the players during the 1991-92 season.

A client can expect to receive intense shooting instruction which focuses on footwork, positioning, and various release points depending on where the defense is located. The first step is to instruct the client to stretch for 5-10 minutes and talk about the goals that we would like to achieve during the session. After that we will get right into the first set of spot shooting drills. My shooting drills are done at game speed and are incorporated with free throw shooting as part of the cool-down process in between spots.

Client Reviews

Very knowledgeable, flexible with whatever you're looking for and cool guy!

My first day of training with coach Grooms was excellent. The drills I did took me out of my comfort zone and added more to my game, I'm looking forward to more.

Coach Grooms has a basketball I.Q. of a genius. His shooting drills combined with his approach to the game has made me a better player.
C. Grooms is one of the best shooting and scoring instructors in the business.
