We recently interviewed one of CoachUp\u2019s private soccer coaches Coach Michael F<\/a>. With many years of soccer coaching<\/a> experience under his belt and a successful athletic career that led to playing professional soccer, Coach Michael deserves to shine under the spotlight.<\/p>\n

Tell us about yourself.<\/strong><\/p>\n

I have over 20 years of experience playing soccer, and I am still currently playing professional soccer in Philadelphia<\/a>. I have coached many camps and done personal training<\/a> for all different ages.<\/p>\n

Why did you decide to become a private coach?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I find joy in working with kids who have dreams and aspirations of playing at a higher level, whether it be club soccer, college, or professional<\/a>. I remember being a young soccer player<\/a> who was always looking for people who had accomplished what I wanted to do with soccer, and I believe I can be that extra tool to help them move forward.<\/p>\n

What do you enjoy most about coaching?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I enjoy seeing the athletes realizing improvements in their game through hard work and dedication.<\/p>\n

What can a client expect from private lessons with you?<\/strong><\/p>\n

You can expect a very detailed training session. Players are often given orders by a coach, however never taught HOW to do the orders in the first place. I find fun ways to incorporate fundamental skills and tactical awareness.<\/p>\n

What is your coaching style or philosophy?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Soccer should be fun! That is the reason we all start playing the sport at such a young age. It should stay that way! I also believe that hard work and the sacrifices you are willing to make will determine how far you get in the sport.<\/p>\n

Who is your favorite coach and why?<\/strong><\/p>\n

My favorite coach is Michael Laudrup of Swansea City because he understands the game like very few. He finds a way to make average players come together and become great players.<\/p>\n

What is your favorite moment in your athletic career?<\/strong><\/p>\n

My favorite moment has to be scoring against Real Madrid in a friendly game we played here in Philadelphia.<\/p>\n

Did you participate in your sport in high school and college?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I was freshman of the year and a 4 year all first team player (2 years at CSUF, 2 years at UNC). I went to 2 College Cups.<\/p>\n

What other sports or activities do you enjoy playing or practicing?<\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I enjoy fishing in my spare time. It\u2019s very relaxing and easy to do.<\/p>\n

What is your favorite sports related movie?<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Sandlot<\/p>\n

What\u2019s your mantra or favorite saying (in the context of sport and\/ or life)?<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cWhen you are not practicing, remember, someone somewhere is practicing, and when you meet him he will win\u201d by Ed Macauley<\/p>\n

What team do you root for most enthusiastically? (any sport)<\/strong><\/p>\n

I am a huge fan of AC Milan.<\/p>\n

Do you have any special talents or a surprising thing someone might not know about you?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I enjoy nature more than most people! I like camping, fishing, hiking, kayaking, swimming, etc.<\/p>\n
