More About Coach Thomas

I have been coaching since I was roughly 14 years old, earlier even, but serious coaching since then. I have played lacrosse my entire life, and take pride in how I coach. I played growing up in Duxbury, then went to a boarding school (Brooks) in high school, was a Boston lax all American as a senior and 2x 1st team All ISL. I then went on to play in college at the D1 level at Boston University. There I further improved my game, and became an important part of the team, eventually winning the Community Service award as a senior. After I graduated in May of 2018, I decided to go to Australia so I could continue to play. While there I took over coaching and overall development of both the U-17 and U-15 teams. Both teams won their championships, and in my own campaign I came in third place for best player voting despite only having played roughly a quarter of the season. I just moved back to America after five months down under, and have begun coaching roughly 9 hours a week for the Laxachusetts lacrosse club. I have coached every summer through college and also the occasional weekends during the school year. I have have coached private lessons for a few different kids, typically only over the summer. I believe I can (and have) worked with essentially every age group from 2nd grade through 18 year olds. In terms of position, I have played goalie for most of my life, but am also extremely proficient in teaching all other positions, besides the intricacies of the faceoff X.

Went to the Brooks school in North Andover Massachusetts for most of high school (sophomore through senior year). Started as a sophomore, was all league as a junior, and as a senior I captained the team, was all league again, and was a Boston lax All-American. After high school went on to play D1 at BU for coach Ryan Polley. Was an important part of the team, and got to play in a lot of games through my 4 years there, despite missing my sophomore year due to injury. I also won the 2018 BU men’s lacrosse community service award for my efforts with various charitable organizations. After college I moved to Australia where I played only a quarter of the season and still came third in votes for best player for the Brighton Bombers Lacrosse Club.

I have multiple different style of sessions for all different players. My sessions are physically demanding, but also filled with as much knowledge as I can fit into an hour or hour and a half. I typically start with 10-15 minutes of footwork, usually rotating through 2-3 different drills, getting closer and closer to drills near the net. I then move to positioning, movement through the net, and communication. From here I will typically take 10-15 minutes to work on drills specific to need for each player. For instance if hand speed is lacking, I will do various hand speed drills, if stick skills are poor, I will teach mechanics and get reps throwing the ball correctly. After this I will typically start doing shooting drills, I have a number of different drills that build up to live shooting. I like to finish with some sort of competition between me and the goalie based off of their save percentage against my shooting.
