More About Coach Steve

I have organized, operated and lectured at multiple goalkeeping summer camps. Both as owner/facilitator and as an employee.

Although my specialty is coaching athletes from 12-18; I have coached all levels during my coaching career. At sporting blue valley in Kansas City I coached ages 8 to 18 and was able to coach professionals at Sporting Kansas City.

Where have you worked as a coach or trainer? Oregon State University summer soccer camps, Sporting Blue Valley soccer club and Sporting Kansas City.

What age groups do you typically work with? Typically ages 12 through 18.

What were your specific athletic accomplishments? Won far west regionals with Sereno Soccer Club. Won National Team Player of the week honors while playing for Oregon State University. Won the PDL national title with an undefeated season in 2009. Awarded MVP for the 2010 season for Oregon State University.

Did you compete at the collegiate or professional level? Yes. I received a full ride athletic scholarship to play at Oregon State University. Also, I played professional soccer for the MLS as a Pool Goalkeeper for Sporting Kansas City 2012. During 2013-2014 I had brief stints with Seattle Sounders, Chicago Fire, Alborg FC (Denmark).

What awards or honors have you earned? Won far west regionals with Sereno Soccer Club. Won National Team Player of the week honors while playing for Oregon State University. Won the PDL national title with an undefeated season in 2009. Awarded MVP for the 2010 season for Oregon State University.

I typically plan a 60 minute session. First 10-15 is dedicated to proper warm up (jogging, stretching, calisthenics, ladders, etc.) During this time, we will also engage in light touching of a ball (hand exercises, volleys, passing, technical footwork, etc.) The next 10-15 minutes is spent focusing on technique. Drills will be slow, but perfect. 10-15 minutes proceeding that will be faster pace (live action) type drills usually building off of what we were doing in the technical sessions. If its distribution we will pick up the pace/distance. If its power diving I will start to incorporate harder shots (depending on the skill/age) and up the reps from 4-6 to 8-12. During the last 10-15 we will engage in a game of some sort and finish with a cool down.
