More About Coach Steve

I have been coaching youth baseball CAPS and minor division Little League Baseball (age 6-10) teams in San Diego for the past 10 years. I have been a CAPS Team Manager for the past 3 years and my teams have a combined record of 40-10-1 over the past 2 years. This year I coached the 2013 CAPS All Star squad for our little league.

I played baseball from Little League through the High School Varsity Team, and competed in major confernece division 1 athletics (Swimming). Also I have umpired for Little League and adult Softball Leagues in Chicago and San Diego. I have been part of many coach training clinics to gain teaching techniques and approaches, including the 'Big Al' Little League and San Diego Padres sponsored clinics.

A typical training session with me will have a specific theme or focus (e.g. hitting, pitching, fielding), and we will go through an overview of proper technique, followed by drills that break down the activity into smaller parts to be refined, perfected, then put back together into an improved apporach to the activity we are focusing on.

Teaching hitting is my specialty, but I also have developed dynamic training processes to improve throwing, fielding, as well as proper Pitching mechanics for young players.

Visual aids may be used, and take-home instructions are included with each client session. Video analyis with telestration available for extra fee.

As a High School athlete (Parchment, MI), I played baseball (JV and Varsity) and Tennis (Varsity). Also I swam competitively in the club arena, winning many State, Regional championships and was a 3-time qualifier to the YMCA National Swimming Championships.

I was a member of the Varsity Swim team at Michigan State University from 1986-1988, my specialty was swimming middle distance and sprint freestyle races.

Typical Session includes:

1. Warmup & Stretching
2. Proper skill technique and training focus
3. Drills for skill development
4. Skill performance
5. Review

Client Reviews

I hired Steve to teach me how to play the outfield in softball. This is not collegiate softball, but co-ed casual, beer drinking, softball. I am 35 and have always loved baseball in its various forms.
Steve is incredibly observant and could spot flaws and bad habits I had picked up during my life time. I've never had formal coaching and it was important to me to understand how to do it right. We've had two one hour sessions together, where he covered throwing mechanics, foot work, and ball trajectory.
I will continue hiring him for sessions as I sense an improvement, not only in my understanding of the nuances of softball, but also in my instincts.

I would recommend Steve to anyone looking for a batting coach. Thank you for your critique -
professional, detailed with an eye on technique!

Coach Steve is fantastic. I chose him because of his years of experience coaching baseball. My son has absolutely no experience playing baseball, but Coach Steve has agreed to take him on for privates. In the two sessions that we have had so far, my son has walked off the field very positive and excited about going to the next lesson. Steve puts a tremendous amount of time setting up the field for the lesson before you get there. Seeing the effort and time that he puts into the lesson before the lesson begins, in addition to his attentiveness and coaching skill on the field, I feel pretty confident that leaving him a 5 star review is spot on. It has to be difficult working with a 14YO that has no previous experience, but Coach Steve has taken it all in stride, and been able to keep my kid positive, and confident. Thanks, Steve!

A professional and a great coach. Steve worked with my nephew (14y) and my (7/8y)nieces.
Steve was always prepared and on time. He set a plan from the first day with reasonable goals and reached most of them by the end of his coaching. I liked how he considered the children's ages adding some fun time in the water such as doing a handstand under the water. Moreover, although my nephew's response was slow because of an old brain injury, Steve was kind, friendly, and patient.
The children liked him and they were always excited to swim and work on their moves with him.
Thank you Steve,
