More About Coach Sonja
I played NCAA Division 1 and then overseas in Europe. I am starting out a virtual coaching program for hockey players. I am interested in covering what the athlete needs, everything from mental health and sports performance, to skills drills for stickhandling and shooting for more confidence on the ice to off-ice programs. I think mindset is really important. I want to develop this company to help athletes reach the potential they want as I remember the jump I had had from AAA to US Development Camps and from high school and girls hockey to NCAA D1 college hockey that I wasn't prepared for. Looking back I wish I had had a skills coach or mentor to help me transition and to help me with my game during this time.
I am here as a resource for youth players all the way up to the professional level.
I have coached with youth hockey and learn-to-skate programs in Oak Park to AAA, girls high school league and ACHA D1 and NCAA D3 programs.
I played D1 before progressing to play in Europe. I am a two-time world champion Division 1/1A with the Czech Women's National Team. I have been invited to multiple AHAI, Midwest and also USA Hockey Development Camps at the U-15 and U-16 level in Lake Placid, NY.
Hockey IQ, skills, skating, stick handling, shooting, video, on-ice and off-ice training. I'm here to answer your questions.
For online training, all you need is a stick, three pucks and a slippery surface.
We'll typically start with a warm-up, we may go over something from the previous lesson, and learn a new skill and end with building on a skill. I like to evaluate a lot through video. I like to give hockey homework too if desired!
