More About Coach Samuel
Most of my experience has been on the field playing at a high level; however, I have had experience as an assistant coach position for a U-8 and U-11 club team, I head coached a 4-6th grade indoor team that went undefeated, and have personally trained a number of kids individually. I also have significant experience with weight training and have worked with multiple individuals of various ages. I have experience training individuals in their late teens to mid 30s. I am currently in the doctor of chiropractic program at Parker University and have a lot of knowledge regarding the physiology of the athlete. I am also a fifa certified referee, that has been invited to referee at an international friendly tournament.
As a player, I played internationally on the Guam national soccer team from U-12 youth traveling team up to the Men’s level. I have experience playing and starting in South Korea, Vietnam, and China. I have played against the youth national programs of S. Korea, Australia, Vietnam, CNMI, Taiwan, Malaysia, and China. I have also played against high level club teams in South Korea. During high school, I played on 4 separate teams during the year: a youth elite soccer club, a men’s club team, my high school varsity team and the national team. I also started on the varsity soccer team at my high school all 4 years. I played holding/defensive midfielder and left outside back for the national team, I also have a lot of experience at the striker, wing, and attacking midfielder position as that is where I played for my club and high school.
I love to individualize my sessions to fit the level and position of the player. I think each player deserves an individualized session per his/her game, and I will forward a copy of the plan prior to the practice. I try to incorporate some speed and explosive drills after a dynamic warm-up at the beginning. I firmly believe that plyometrics, agility drills, and footwork are not only foundational and essential for a quality player, but that these are what separate the average from the elite. I follow these with footwork cone drills and transition into passing drills from there. Athleticism, ball handling, and proper passing technique should be at the forefront of every players game. The foundational basics are 99% of the game at even the elite level of play and that is why I believe the largest majority of time should be spent at that level. I prefer to make the time all about the player honing in on his or her skillset, but no matter the age level, I think finishing off the session with some fun is important. I will assign an at home workout for players after the session and will provide the athletes with areas of success and places that more time should be spent on perfecting.
