More About Coach Russell
I have coached baseball and softball. I coached Dixie majors baseball(14-18 years old) for 4 years in Greenville, Al. I was also the head Softball coach at Chelsea High school for 15 years. I have coached other sports such as football and golf at Chelsea high school and Greenville High school.
I played college baseball for Lurleen B. Wallace junior college. As a softball coach, my team won a state championship, several area championships, and regional championships. I was also the softball coach of the year in shelby county twice.
My main focus is on fundamentals. As far as the baseball swing, I generally start out with going through the four phases of the baseball swing on a tee. We first cover stance and load, then progress to contact, extension, and finish. We do tee drills for each stage to help the player execute the stage. I then progress to either long tee or front toss. I also cover the techniques in hitting inside, outside, low, high, and middle pitches. I cover the mental part of hitting as well as timing. I can also teach fielding, throwing, and catching as well as work with catchers.
